thought I had little to say, proved myself quite wrong

Christ, child, why is that I can't seem to remember that I get the same kind of high off of being productive as I do off of having a sweet crush?
I cannot seem to bear that in mind as I go about planning and executing my life.

IMG_6035

Today I had a great brunch with the Mrs., I drank a lot of coffee and got a bit of jitters but it was totally worth it. Then Mrs. and I went to that little Home Hardware on College where the old men are helpful and not helpful and pretty rude but also kind of endearing. I bet that store in particular gets a shit-tonne of stupid questions all day long. Lots of DIY hipsters (me and Mrs.) looking to start projects they have no idea how to actually do properly.
No, Mrs. knows how to do things. She does set dec. and props and buying and shit for films (hire her). She knows more about building than most people I know.

After the hardware store I came home to get down to work. I'm reorganizing everything in my apartment, repurposing furniture and getting rid of stuff. My place has been driving me bananas so it needs to be done. When I'm done I will have a super awesome, tidy little place that I will be proud to have people (BABES) over to.

IMG_6044

This afternoon I managed to start the back shelves that I'm putting up on top of my desk (hard to explain why it's going to be awesome, it just hopefully will be), I put up a shelf and I started transitioning this weird shelf-cupboard-pantry thing that I had been using with the doors off as just a set of shelves that held my TV among other things, I'm turning it into a wardrobe.
I had been thinking of purchasing a wardrobe but I could not find anything that would fit into my apartment. The walls slope in such weird ways and there's just such limited room.

Is anyone else fully addicted to apartmenttherapy.com?? It's kind of great because it has such neat things and ideas but also bad because I just waste hours and hours reading through the site instead of getting to work on my own projects.

Super neat idea that I linked over to from Apartment Therapy, is this idea of starching fabric onto walls as wallpaper. Apparently it damages neither the walls nor the fabric! Whoaly.
I don't know how it would work with large pieces but it still seems pretty cool.

IMG_6050

I would really, really love to not have the shittyuglyshitfuckbrutal carpeting in my attic. I'm thinking of buying some mats/rugs to cover it up. Apparently the girl before me had painted the floors blood-red so they "had" to cover it up. I would prefer blood-red floors to this ugly industrial blue never-clean carpet. Carpets are gross.

April 1st was my six-year anniversary of living in this teeny-tiny attic. SIX YEARS. I cannot move out of here because my rent is stupid-cheap and I love the location and the apartment. Most of the time.
Ruth Buzzi is hard to live with sometimes around here because she is very bored and wants to leave the room a lot. But there is nowhere to go. But I have to have a cat or else the place will be overrun with mice. Remember when that happened?? BRUTAL.
Way worse than having a vaguely annoying cat who is also kind of lovely and is asleep right now with her paw on my knee awwwwwwwww

IMG_6052

You know, I didn't even feel too badly about missing out on park-time with Cpt. Heh or missing out on a shopping mission with Mrs. because I seriously got so much done.
All these projects would be 100% easier if I knew the first thing about carpentry. Trial-and-error isn't the worst, I guess. Well, it kinda is.

IMG_6054

I think I'm getting tomorrow off, I'm working something like 24 of the 30 days this month? Super weird for me but it's also for the best. I have some billz to pay.
And tomorrow I'm doing a work-friend's headshots... and I like doing headshots.

Also, I do own other shirts, I just took my picture in so many different ways on that same day. Yeah there's more to come, even.

oh mighty hunter

Good work Rudyard Kitling! You killed your first mouse!
Except next time you could let it keep its insides on the inside.
If you want to.

Hey you know who is popular (by which I mean, has people who love her)??
Me!
Two Thanksgivings this year instead of my usual none.
I don't even like Thanksgiving! But this year I am making an effort to get into it. Sort of like how sometimes people hate Christmas but they really shouldn't.
No, actually, that's a different situation all together.

First din this afternoon with Dollface and fam! I'm hoping someone gets sloppy and embarrassing. And I hope that it's not me. Oh yeah, I also get to meet her brother for the first time!
I hope I like him as much as I'm planning on.
OMG I just realized I am totally showing up empty-handed. Worst guest ever! I'm an embarrassment.
No wonder no one ever invites me anywhere.

.

I'm feeling sort of crazy these days where I am negotiating how extremely excellent everything is going (except my career but whatever who even cares about that) with how I am still mildly depressed and can't see to make myself do things I should.

.

This is the only picture I have from Steph's birthday last night.

But I'm sure there'll be more information on that to come.
It was v funtimez though. I really like that girl. Especially something about the way she talks, which you don't get to experience through her blog...
I took one of those martinis home. It's kind of rad, actually. It wasn't that rad when I didn't know it was fake and Sass made like she was going to throw it in my face.
Scaredsies.

Shit I left the curling iron on!

7.06.2008

200th post!

This is who I am missing these days:

The best part is clearly the music. No denying.

Oh yeah, this morning Temp-Cat brought a mouse over and put it on the carpet. It was in shock and looked dead but then she slapped it in the face and it came to. I really, really didn't know what to do about it.
My friend was over and he's a genius and a take-charge kind of a guy and he put a glass over it.
mouse in a glass!
I wanted to kill it so, so badly. But I couldn't. I couldn't come up with a way to do it. I'm a wimp. I went and put him outside.
Ugh.

Another show tonight!
I think lots of people I know are coming, so hopefully I don't eff it up.
I'm going to wear my new red dress because I wore my new navy dress last night.
The red dress is ridiculously comfortable and ridiculously short/inappropriate.
Perfect.

more sushi plssssss

Holy holy no updateskies sorry sorry

Yikes. I'm so excited for when my life gets way less busy. Which will be in a couple of weeks? Hopefully?
Maybe sooner, when all I have to concentrate on is fringing.
Too much working/socializing/rehearsing/cleansing

sta-ressss-in me out man

Don't worry though because I'm feeling like I'm about to have an outpouring of creativity. Soon. At some point.
I have many ideas, I just need to implement, fruition-ize.

Seriously people at skydome, learn to tip! I don't even make minimum wage! How will I make rent? Waiting for your quarter change? srsly?

Been downright irritable the past couple of days. Hitting the point in the cleanse where I can't remember what in hell made me get into this mess and why I would be doing it at all.
Just feeling very deserving of treats and very close to cheating every few minutes. And just angry about having to do it. Not fun.
Hopefully this feeling ends soon. Tomorrow maybe.
Gotta make it til Thursday. God dammit.

Also worrying about the fringe.. the play will be good, funny, etc. You should come see it.
But I think it could be better.
And spending that much time with anyone is hard.. and you know me.. not good at people. We are all completely different types of personalities and trying to work them all together is hard work. Obviously.

It has made me really want to do more theatre though. And do it well. And work hard at (I should learn those skills someday, at least).
Also, going through and giving the girls feedback the other day (there's a huge chunk in the middle that I'm not in so I feel like I have a bit of perspective..) made me miss being a director. I love bossing!
I'm the bossiest boss ever. Especially lately. Lately all I do is boss. And criticize. I am pleasure to be around!
People love me.

I need to start reviewing things. So badly. I do have opinions and thoughts on a bunch of stuff. Need to start getting it out of my head.
Went to see Young People Fucking last night, definite thoughts on that. (Like not enough D, etc)
And Pu-Erh tonight at the Fu-Gen Festival, even more thoughts there, maybe.

After the play we went for sushi and I could eat it even so there! First time eating out in days! Very unlike my usual lifestylez. My friend is on a for-life diet plan that restricts her eating many of the same things. It's nice to have buds in the same boat.

I think I'm going to stay off wheat for a few more days at least, I'm feeling that it might be a problem for me.

Hey guys. I'm having hair issues. Like, so, I love my hair, right? Especially since it stopped being that horrendous shade of bright red/purple and toned down to look more natural.. but it does look pretty nice when it's darker red. But lighter is nice for summer... I'm torn!

on the starbucks patio

I think I mostly want it like it is in this picture:

But that colour is so hard to keep! Unless you're like that babe next to me and it's real.

Thoughts???

Oh, also,
a mouse JUMPED ON MY HEAD today
I screamed.
I was chasing him a bit and I think he must have ran up the curtain and launched himself onto my head! He seemed to come out of nowhere! Terrifying!
My life sucks.
Oh yeah, and this time around they're eating the peanut butter (and cheese and hummus and whatever else I have) right off the traps! I have no idea how they're wrangling, but I hate them. I hate them!!!

exciting newses

Two big

OMGs

for you

bad news first

I CAN HEAR A DAMMIT MOUSE AGAIN. I CAN HEAR YOU KIND SIR, PLEASE PLEASE LEAVE PLEASE KIND TOM THUMB

please

but then also,

Bill Priddle just totally friend-requested me on Facebook.
This is undoubtedly owed completely to the fact that I joined a group on there about being overly-enamoured with his music.
BUT STILL.

I'm feeling a little less creepy since I've shared with friends about how I approached Bill Priddle to tell him how much I adore his music. Turns out it's a pretty common trend.
Srsly.
Think about NC-17 and, well, everything up until Maybe It's Me.
Treble Charger used to be amazing. Admit it.
And Bill Priddle still is.

5.29.2008

no more sleeping on boards (even though I kind of liked it)

New futon. Finally. It is alright. It is quite excellent up as a couch, but not the best for lying down.
Sigh.
WHATEVER.

new futon

Oh yeah I never told you but I got a sweet new computer chair off the road (classy) and now my life is more comfortable...
Except I've had a headache for three days. Maybe I should shave my head. Maybe I should get off the computer. I'm always on the computer and people are always chatting with me and then accuse me of being online too much but hey, if I wasn't then how would you chat with me? You'd be lonely.
And I'm working so much on here, I can't get off.

Every time I find a dead mouse (which has been about 5 I think now. Omg so infested) I jump clear across the room. I am never expecting it.
They are less cute in traps. Which makes my life easier.

GROSS.

More teeth cleaning this afternoon, going to see a student is good on the wallet and terrible on the time.. I'm hoping to just go ahead and get it all done though. That'd be good. Clean mouth = hot babe.

Then working at Big Chill and serving up the scoops and partying down.

I'm feeling good not partying as extremely but it's sad for you, blog, because it's less exciting.

5.21.2008

meredith, in parts

You know what is nice?
When boys love each other. I mean that in all ways, but today I'm meaning platonically.
Check these two, they're so nice:

One of those two is one of my very favourite people of all time, even though sometimes it doesn't seem like it. But I do just love him so, so much.

Fuck I wish I hadn't caught my thumb so hard in that mouse-trap! Damn you tiny beasts of burden!

You might not know this, but I love my camera. Fuck bromance, electromance is the new hot.

I am severely missin my kittens. Oh sigh sigh.

rerun vs. pigeon

I'm looking into getting a cat. Such issues, though! But if not then I will for surely pet-sit some? Or something. I love them. And wish for them to kill my mice.
Stupid, stupid mice.. I wish I knew how you are so invincible.

4.28.2008

don't like those festers

Missed a blog day but that's alright since I worked at ACC from 11a.m. until I went to the Big Chill, where I worked until midnight. So it's completely excusable.

It was an okay day though. Didn't feel as long as it sounds (luckily).

Ew. I totally have only had a latte and an ice cream so far today and goddammit is my belly not excited about that.
yucks

I'm going to the camera store. Just to look. Right?
Guess who got a check in the mails today!!!

I'm still 100% completely broke, but.. you know... I feel less broke. So it's fine. Or something.

I have an eye appointment tomorrow!

Wow. I'm so responsible. Eyes, teeth, what's next?? Maybe a real doctor's appointment. Maybe in Saskatoon? We'll see.

This blog would really benefit from me owning a DSLR though. Just sayin just saying oh god...

So. I need a new bed. Who's going to get my new bed to my house though?

I spoke to my landlord today about the mice. He suggested..... traps
huh. because I don't obviously have two kinds of traps plus poison out right now and yet I still did a sort of misguided hokey-pokey dance with Hunca Munca in the bathroom upon getting home the other night.
Most often used phrase in this room:
"DUDE! I CAN SEE YOU!"
Hunca Munca and Tom Thumb 100% do not care.
They, in fact, attended Don't Care High, where they honed their Don't Care Skillz

Hates them!!!

My sweetest sugar momma is back from the city des anges today! Dakota-mimosa-drinking-brunch-boy-hunting-party soon soon sooon. Yeeah.

It's funny how when I get focussed on one particular babe (for however a brief period) I can totes turn off my (finely tuned) scope-eye.. but then when I'm fully single it's comes back like no one's busyness.
So many babes of all kinds out and about because it's springtime.
Sigh.

I had a moment of jealousy yesterday that made my stomach leap into my throat and my heart drop. I'm pretty sure I didn't let on too badly and made jokes instead.
But holy I almost barfed.
And I didn't expect that bit of jealousy.
Or at least I didn't expect that kicked-in-the-belly feeling.

I think I'm going to have to take action (sexy action. wait. nope) to resolve this business. Because it's been festering for beyond evers.
And I'm not down with the festers.

Hey guess how you get an audition!
Book an appointment for a specific time. Guaranteed within 15 minutes you'll get a call for an audition for that exact time.
Success!
Changed the appointment time.
Maybe I'll get two auditions!!!!

4.21.2008

Hunca Munca has made me paranoid

The flax bread that I bought has flax seeds which fall off a lot and get into the peanut butter and onto the counter and that would be fine, except
flax seeds look so much like mouse turds.

4.14.2008

yayayayayay ayayayayay fun party yaaya fun times

From s-nicole.blogspot.com:
"The guys I like aren't anything alike, or so I pretend... until I walk up to their apartments. Then I'm forced to admit that in nine out of ten bedrooms, there are guitars leaning against the wall, empty tallcans in the kitchen sink, Mac books and sketchbooks (usually filled with potential tattoos) on the desk. Navy blue sheets and plaid flannel on the floor. Rock star autobiographies."

Hah!
except those are things I like about boys. So it only makes sense.

I'm happy today. Oh except still hopeless and at my wit's end and irritable.
All of those things.

Not as hopeless as yesterday though.

My life is a disaster!

Fuck!

I saw my old BFF yesterday for the first time in too long. We laughed pretty hard. And also talked serious. But laughing is always what we do best together. Especially when she almost pushes me down the stairs with my own mattress. What a card!

Went out last night to the Summerworks Festival launch party. Kind of fun. That space is very, very cool. I wish to perform there someday. We saw some good musics and Sass and I danced to Ballroom Blitz, which is one of my very favourites. Yeah huh.
Aaaand there were treats! Bakesale is one thing, but free treats - even better!

Improv tonight! I'm not really feeling it all. So maybe I'll just feel people up instead. Remind me to pack a snack. I get so hungry sometimes. Usually when I haven't eaten, I guess.

4.12.2008

The idea of a "personal" blog is kind of ridiculous

Entire Cities CD release last night. Pretty fun. Highlights included:
- the best kalimba playing I've seen
- a rousing Radiohead cover involving a whole stage full of people and a very, very raspy voice
- hearing all my Entire Cities favourites again (it's been too long)
- exercise trampoline jumping (never shake a babe!)
- pretending to interview my friend about the ice cream job (too many hilarious fake interview questions)
- $3.50 bottles of 50
- my beard of 50 labels
beard made of 50 labels
it's like that first time I drank beer
so gross
Entire Cities

Apparently my favourite beast, Supertruck, is kicking the bucket. It's been a long time coming and he's served us all remarkably well.. but it will be weird to not have him to take care of me when I'm home.
I love driving. I love driving standard. I love driving Supertruck. Sigh.

I love Saskatchewan. In case you were wondering.

Today is stupid-busy but then I have three days off in row (with not too many social commitments)!
I'm planning a SUPER-SPRING-CLEANING. Like you would never even believe I am capable of. I am going to wash everything in this room. I am throwing everything out. I am not joking. I am paring down my life in any way possible (well, trying at least). Luckily Tuesday is garbage day because I am going to have stuff to get rid off. For real.
My goal is four garbage bags full of stuff for Value Village.
We'll see.

I'm going to take everything out of my apartment and try and seal off any possible mouse-entrance. And then set up a billion traps. And get rid of them. I believe it is possible. I have faith!

And I'm going to buy new furniture. It's been decided.

3.30.2008

the exciting life and times of miss bomb

Two new developments in the epic, exciting drama which is my life:

#1:
I caught one! I came home (drunk drunkety drunk) last night to find Hunca Munca caught by a leg in one of my traps. So I scooped her up and tried to calm her but she bit me a bunch (totally rude) and so I held her by the scruff of her neck and took her and dumped her out on the front walk. I just couldn't bear to physically kill her myself. Even though she bit me.
The home invasion seems to be lessening maybe the poison is finally starting to work. I hope so. Knock wood and stuff.

#2:
I finally, finally saw the damn Ice Breakers commercial. Thanks to my aunt's tip about it frequently being on the retro cartoon network. I managed to tape the end half. And have freeze-frame watched it around a billion times.
Conclusions:
-What a bizarro nose I have! (totally cute but also very weird-looking)
-I should get my teeth fixed
-I have sparkly eyes
-it put to rest my intense fears that it's awful..

It also played last night at work, on a whole bunch of TVs around me. Very bizarre.
.

Last night was supposed to be for partying all the time but it was a case of too many possibilities and too many almost parties.. but dancing at the Dakota with the single girl trifecta was pretty good.
A blonde, a brunette and a redhead walk into a bar.... (ouch)
Chuck Berry tribute night = pretty fun dance party.
.

I just about ate a whole cucumber!
.

Oh, actually exciting:
I have found my new rap partner, Sassephine: super new rap duo: name to be announced soon: party time to follow: same size of feet so you know we'll work well together: or at least be able to switch shoes

3.26.2008

hates it

How can they possibly ingest that much poison and still not be dead?
New house rule: No screaming unless it's your last scream of death, mousey.

3.22.2008

oh soren

"For every woman there is a seducer; her happiness lies in her meeting him"
-Soren Kierkegaard

That was the fortune (?) in my odd sort of chocolate nut treat that a man at work gave me. Kind of funny that it'd be Kierkegaard.

"I have a bone to pick with you"
"You read my blog"

Story of my life.

I have the TV on. A lot. Still nothing.

Everyone in the world seems to have seen the gum one at least.
Everyone says "Hey! I saw your commercial!" but then they don't always follow it up with something. Then it gets awkward. I feel like Mitch Hedberg.

"A guy came up to me in the airport, saying, "Dude, I saw you on TV last night!" But he did not say whether or not he thought I was good. He just confirmed I was on television. So I turned away for a minute, and then I turned back toward him and said, "I saw you at the airport about a minute ago. And you were good!""

I went to a rad clothing swap yesterday with a whole lot of girls I didn't know. I like situations like that. I like new people. Except I'm so abrasive.
I got some good goods though! And ate some dainties. And had some post-swap gossip time.
I can't even explain how much I like gossip. And drama. And gossipy drama. So hard.

Party all the time. Party party party party all the time.

My old friend EE came to town and texted me last night. I think that she is ridiculously hysterical. Apparently her friend got her cards made up that said "Need a situation made awkward? Call E.E".
So true.
And excellent.

I'm working the Foo Fighters concert tonight. Then I hope to party party party more but I'm exhausted and irritable. Frustrated with myself and with other people.

And fed up with the mice. Stop squealing. For realz.

3.14.2008

I like being a killer as seldom as possible

stagelights

Oh my good lord am I in a mood this morning.

I do not do not do not like killing things.
I've had the poison food out for a couple of days now and the mouse seems to be eating it. But he's still around (or they're still around? I dreamt there were dozens of them).
Last night I came home and found him in my bathtub looking so ridiculously cute and lovely. I tried to catch him and put him outside but he ran away.
Then I hysterically cried for awhile.

Oh, also, I was drunk.

My phone should be taken away from me when I'm drinking. Actually, I should just not be allowed to drink. I'm stupid.

I'm going to invent cellphone software where you can program your phone to disable access to certain numbers after a certain hour of the night.
It's like how back before cellphones some of my girlfriends had each other's numbers written on their mirrors at home, so that they'd remember to call the girls instead.

Okay time for brunch. That should cheer me up? Hopefully?
I just want to weep instead.

I know that I posted this poem once before somewhere else, but I still love it so so much. And I feel like it's appropriate for today (you should read it three times over at least, I think):

Monarchs, roses

They are matchbooks, lit matchbooks that fly.
I drive fast and east
to the radioed melody of a woman
and sunlight and my hand
kiting out the window
in a blue car beside a stream
travelling west and south
to the Gulf of Mexico to join
the water that is the sky over Atlantis.
I am an arrow of happiness and I like
root beer and walking from Brooklyn
to the Met and standing
inside the first sigh of grass
in the morning but when my joy
strikes a pair of wings the color
of hydrogen
exploding and the monarch
falls in the rear view like a shirt
shot from its hanger, I want
a tiny piece of chalk
so I can trace the body
for the detective who will slap me
and say, we know you did it, Rocky.
That I'm not Rocky
won't stop justice from smoking
its cigarette in my face
and I slow down too much
for the people piling up
behind me on their way to some other
massacre but I like
cows and the cello and being a killer
as seldom as possible. When I stop
and dismantle the car, you are welcome
to the tires and the horn but leave
the radio, this woman
sings like her voice is a rose bush,
is thorns and complex blooms
and it forgives us
just by letting us know it exists.

-Bob Hicok

3.11.2008

sorry little guy

I bought Buster Bruce (and his clan) some bacon and cheese flavoured treats.
To kill them.

I've had enough of fighting him and trying to block him out. I have never wilfully tried to kill anything larger than a spider in my life. I don't like killing. But Brucie is really, really getting to me. And he's gross. And I keep thinking I've got rid of and but nope!

I still don't like killing.

.

this is my favourite camera phone picture, this explains why Little Italy is the best place to live in Toronto.

These pictures are of the duvet cover that mother so lovingly hand-crafted for me at Christmas time. They don't really do it justice. It (and the down duvet it covers) is still one of my most favourite things every day. It may partially explain my desire to sleep 12 hours a night.
