6.04.2011

we're grown-ups now, grown-ups use frames on their wall hangings.

It's raining!
Oh, right as I wrote that it stopped, I think. Sort of.

I have to work outside at the soccer pitch today so I would very much not mind it if it cleared up. especially because I'm going to bike. And then high-tail it over to Hoops right afterward, of course!

hahahaa stupid tired face. Tea on the deck yesterday morning and my roommates and I had a very, very hard time getting away from there. It sucks you in. Vitamin D forever and ever.

I feel so, so much like I am at a cottage. It's several things. Living out of bags, feeling at home not at home, the decks, multiple activities, people to share tea and food with, beers in the sun, wearing moomoos while hanging out, all the trees surrounding the kitchen deck...
Yep. Still pretty into my new place.

I love decorating and entertaining! What a treat! People around to take care of and get things for and bring tea to.
Obviously the bloom is going to come off that rose at some point but until then! Let's just smile around, ya know?
(probably sooner rather than later, as I am generally not that nice.)

This is my other roommate, Onesie. She only owns onesies. No, not really, she owns other clothes I think?
She was wearing an all-khaki outfit the other night. I like that a lot.
I also like Onesie a lot. It's super bizarre moving in with people you've never met and there's lotssss of people I'm not too keen on. It's relieving to me that Onesie seems pretty top-notch.
She likes babes a lot. And is very straightforward about stuff.  Things I like.

this guy hasn't got a nickname yet. Still thinking on it. He doesn't live here. Only almost.

Getting a wicked sunburn.. sort of on purpose?
At this point I was lying around on the deck after drinking one tall can in the sun and being unable to get moving in any way, shape, or form. I had my 45 spf on though, obviously.

Onesie's also a chef, which is the best. It is extra the best because she has friends who are also gluten-free and she was vegetarian for a long time, so sort of gets my dietary restrictions and we've had a few good conversations about stuff.
Also, we've had some great talks about ALL THE FOOD WE CAN COOK FOREVER!
Goddamn the deliciousness we have planned and I'm so looking forward to learning how to make stuff!

I'm a pretty good cook, but I have a limited repertoire and would be very excited to learn a bunch more stuff and try new things.
We're going to make the best mayonnaise ever. And hummus, and have dueling guacamoles.
I wish she weren't leaving in two months and taking her food processor with her. hahaaah maybe I will buy one!
She's going on a chef's training tour of the country, spending a month in each province/territory and learning with different chefs. She's going to be in Saskatoon for a month, so you'll have to befriend her if you're there.

Pretty sure we're going to host a lovely afternoon clothing swap with dainties (if you're not from Saskatoon, that's a word for tiny pastries and treats, not undergarments like it maybe sounds like), snacks, and cocktails. We may or may not sun ourselves on the deck afterward.
I hope lovely ladies come over and we wear sundresses and shit.

I'm gearing up to be the best hostess ever and to be the best wife ever.
Just kidding, best mum only. Medium-good wife.
Medium-good wife who is very lazy in bed.

Hahaaahahaha Violet is so sick of me mentioning The Good Wife whenever she talks about lawyer stuff.
Sorry dude, it's just my way of relating to you.
Actually, I got to hang with Violet twice yesterday. She has a break from lawyering for the next bit and I'm very happy to have her around. I wish she weren't going away for the whole summer, but.... you know.

It's super weird how far away everything is in here. You know how many places there are to lose things? ONE BILLION.
Especially since things are still a massive disaster around here.
It's possible for me to now miss phone calls or lose bags of candy. So bizarre. Also I had to talk myself out of my desire for more tea as it was too far away.

I've taken to running from the kitchen which is at the back of the house, to my room at the front of the house. It just takes too long otherwise! Don't worry, it's quiet running.

I'm forsure the mum of the house. Which is alright and will hopefully stay alright.
The people here before us were (obviously) huge assholes and the neighbours hated them and I'd like to be nice to our neighbours, and not be hated.
It's a bit hard because our place just BEGS people to come over and hang out. Why have a deck the size of a tennis court if we can't party on it?
Why have 2.5 balconies unless we can have people on all three. Oh god, we're the worst.
We had maybe a dozen people over last night after the bars and it felt like nothing (to us, probably not to our neighbours). So much space, so many places to hang out. So fun.
I did a lot of shushing, though. And I don't want everyone to hate me for being the downer. But.. ya know.

If you think I'm not building a snowfort/igloo on the kitchen deck in the wintertime you are sorely, sorely mistaken.

Onesie's mum brought us a lilac bush! How fucking lovely.
I'm going to re-pot it and keep it forever. I hope Onesie doesn't think she's taking it with her.

And Violet brought over a bottle of wine! Niiiice.

I'm never moving out of this house.
My plan is to live here with roommates for a couple of years during which time I will meet the biggest babe of all time of my life who I will then set up a life with here and have kids and we'll be rich and have a guest bedroom and my mum can come and stay for months at a time. And the babies can ride their tricycles around on the deck. PERFECT.
I hope my future-babe likes my mum. Just kidding, everyone likes my mum. I'm more worried about him liking me. I'm the mean one!

All this week I've only slept for 6 hours a night. That's not like me. But I have too much too much too much going around and around and around in my head. I'm sure it'll calm down right away here.

Norman is super adorable sometimes and last night he was like "you're my good buddy and I'm here for you I know this is a big change for you" and that was so nice.
Then he put his mustache on my face and said "does it feel like a chinchilla??"

just wait until we have a billion christmas lights on our ridiculous patios!

HELLO
I'M ON THE INTERNET.

I broke my computer. triple sad face for sure.
I think it's just that the screen isn't connecting to the computer, just black. The computer itself seems to be working. Hopefully!
I think I can either hook it up to an external monitor or get it repaired. Fingers crossed!
I have too much to deal with in my mind/life right now I don't have room for this worry. Firehorse lent me this "spare" computer for the moment, which is so great of him!
It's a pc, he needed it for watching this one particular porn he couldn't download to his mac. Kidding?

ROOMMATES!

Good thing I didn't update yesterday or today, it's been a bit overwhelming and a bit of a shitshow, I was rather exhausted and unable to deal with life by the end of yesterday.
Luckily I met up with most of the best people in the world at Hoops for an amazing hockey game, which made me feel a lot better.

The tenants who were moving out of this place left it in an unreal insane disaster. It was so nuts!
Our property manager had to call a junk removal service to come and get a truckload of garbage! They left vegetables and styrofoam containers of meat out in the overflowing garbage bins in the sun! Sssssickening.

We were pretty appalled. It is still outrageously filthy and I have not got even a third of what needs to be done done... But it's kind of satisfying work.
I kind of lived in my last place like it was temporary for 7 years. So this time I'm treating it like it's permanent right from the get-go.

We did inherit a few things from this disaster including some chairs and shelving for the patios, some good solid wood shelves for indoors, and a bbq!

And last night I slept in my new room under the open window and it was fucking lovely.

And I've been sitting on all the decks and already enjoying the shit out of them. My balcony, especially, is such a treat. Since it's off my room and the step up out onto it is so lovely and the door has bits of red glass and etched glass and the molding on it is amazing. Also the archway in my room is super amaze.

We're painting everything white. Everything needs to be painted so badly.
I'm thinking when that's done I'll take down the yellow curtains over my window and put up lace ones only below the stained glass. Thoughts?

This new place is RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL.
And when I'm done setting it up and we paint it and everything it will be unbelievable. I honestly think that.
Even scouring the nastiest tub is bearable because it's a majestic clawfoot by a window and good goddamn my baths are going to be taken next-level!

Sorry, I know lots of you are on my facebook/twitter and know all this already. But for posterity I have to say it all again!

My god I have some nice stuff. Too much of it, for sure, but some really lovely pieces.

Ha, our kitchen is so bright that it washes out all the photos. Good problem to have!

Best discovery of the past few minutes? JINGLE BELL DOORBELL! fuck yeah! what is this magic haven I've stumbled into?

My bruises are coming in quite nicely, thank you. They're even nicer today! Wow, moving is so dumb.
But the payoff will be amazing? Right?
Riiiiiightttt?

Today I called my mother and then ran through the apartment and slid along the floors yelling. Because I could.

Now Firehorse is working and I am in the kitchen I hung a lamp over the kitchen table, it's getting very cozy in  here.
Our friend came by this afternoon and said "it's looking so cozy already" hahaahaha YEAH. that's what I'm in charge of!

Okay bye! Please think about what you're going to get me for a house-warming gift.

5.01.2011

if this is what spring looks like, what will summer be?

This weekend has been kind of stupid-fun, which is great because I was not feeling fun at all Friday afternoon, I was thinking I'd stay in all weekend and be productive. that might have been a good plan but honestly, the fun I had was worth it.

Last night I worked the UFC event, like I said. And I made a billion dollars and got out of there at about 12:30 (I thought it'd be 2 so I was so thankful).

I wandered over to meet Dollface and her Bay St. gang who had been at the event and who were now at Ultra.
Ultra is the worrrrrst. Hha, clubs are the worst! So ridiculous! I was wearing jeans and sneakers and a stupid tanktop.
I slammed (carla ghee's word of choice) a double gin-and-tonic and then a shot of vodka (serious catching up) and then had another double while Doll and I fucking broke it down on the dance floor. It fun to violently shy away from dudes who try to dance on you. Cowering slightly is also the best!
Dudes like that!
we had some pretty good moves and then I took a tour around the room to find people to hit on but instead I just pushed a bunch of people who were in my way. There was a long table to dance on but I didn't do it. If only I'd worn my 6 inch heels I might have considered it.

this does not give you any indication of how this club sucks, but it's so dark in there (so that everyone looks good!) that you can't take any real photos.

Don't think I don't realize I'm the definition of a hipster since I now take part in ironic clubbing.
Thanks Bay St for the drinks!

Dollface and I were thinking Sneaky Dee's for food after but then Firehorse said house party and when you say house party I say HOW HIGH?
haaa
So I rode my bike up while Dollface fought to find a cab and ended up walking up and I went to 7-11 to buy chips and taquitos to bring to the party.
While I was wandering down Spadina waiting for Dollface, I was approached by a terrifying random man who then turned out to be an ex-co-worker who I hadn't seen in a couple of years!
So ooobviously we brought him to the party! finding people who are up for adventure is such goodfortune in my life sometimes.

hahahaaaa so good. good thing we wore our matching glasses. This guy used to have a soulpatch but now he has a beard. Nice work! Nothing worse than a soulpatch and nothing better than a beard. Is that rude?
Almost certainly.

Have you seen betterwithabeard.tumblr.com? have I linked to it before?
"I didn’t realize Matt LeBlanc could grow such an accomplished beard. People shouldn’t be allowed to squander their beard-growing gifts. It should be illegal."
"That’s an especially great beard. It’s no contest. If you think the beardless Zachary Levi looks better, then you clearly need to start reconsidering the way you’re living your life."
hahaaa obviously I think that's great.

One time I saw a crush at a show and he'd shaved his face a bit and I believe my words to him were "what happened to your face?"
him "yeah, I shaved a bit, do you like it?"
me "no!"

the weird thing was that he didn't fall spectacularly in love with me. I mean, I still like to think he has mild love for me, sorta like a little headache.

And he has his patchy facial hair back, so that's something.

Anyway!
The house party was totally random (best kind of house party), didn't know anyone there except Firehorse and the people he'd invited and we found some BUD LIGHT LIME and ate some chips!

Dollface chilled out on the couch and put her face in a Busch!
How many Busch jokes did we make?
32.

Oh yeah, one time this guy and I had Valentine's day dinner together.
At work. It was pizza. we stood at a round table.
Remember when I still had gluten all day every day? THAT WAS THE BEST.

sigh.

Signed my lease!
We will have central air so you can come and lie around in bed eating bonbons with me all summer when it gets so stupid hot you want to die (remember how summer is coming, apparently? when is that!?).

Now that I signed the lease I feel like I can put pictures up here instead of just private-blog.

My room! My own tiny balcony and a stained-glass window. Plus a closet! I've never, ever had a room with a closet. Think about that. No, that's not true, I had a closet when I was very little before my downstairs room. Still, it's been a while since me and closets had a party together.

IMG_6177
where that TV is there? I want to make that into a little nook where we can sit, facing out, banquette-style sort of and make crafts or play boardgames or hang in general. that's what I want!

terrible quality, I know. screen-captures from my phone from the website which was cached but not online anymore.

kitchen! So excited! I have wanted a door onto a balcony from my kitchen forever and forever. I will take my coffee out there all the time, thank you.

I want to get a family portrait done when we have all the roommates together. Then if anyone ever moves out I will scratch out their faces.
I'm going to make us all matching flasks. Leave me alone to romanticize the roommate experience.

Firehorse and I are so excited to live together. Hopefully the honeymoon lasts forever? Probably, I bet.

IMG_6178
I bet babes will walk by my balcony a lot. And then I can yell at them!
I will put Christmas lights up and no one will be surprised.

I'm very excited. In case you were wondering.
I can't wait to have a dinner party like a lady.

Election tomorrow. I feel nervous. I was getting all riled up like maybe I believed that somehow we'd actually stick it to Harper in some way... but now I just feel nervous about it.
If I were the praying type, I'd definitely be doing some of that.

4.30.2011

you have reason to be frightened since you've been reading my mind

i have no interest in working the ufc game tonight. I hope I make unbelievable amounts of money. That would make it worthwhile.

this is a picture I took of my new house that I took while walking home the other night. Am I a bit of a creeper? Almost certainly.

that stained glass and little balcony? that's mine!

to say that I'm excited about this would be an understatement. Also, I am extremely nervous. And a bit stressed. It'll be a big change. I've lived in my current place for over 7 years! yiiiiiiikesssss.

also, I've never really moved before. so if you want to help me out with that, I'll forsure let you.

this didn't autostitch the best. But still kind of rad. Firehorse (my new roommate as of June 1st) has a studio with a sweet deck. We will have 2 big decks at our new place.
We will have the best lives ever. Almost certainly.

Should I put a rope-ladder up to my room?
hahahaaaa I've been looking at too many design blogs. not that that's where I got the rope-ladder idea.
but so many good ideas I hope I actually get around to doing.

I'm super excited to move in with Firehorse and our other AMAZING (but yet to be determined) roommates. I hope everyone is into theme parties and can be pressured into watching My So-Called Life....
