or at least get them badly sprained

Okay so I guess I'm going to do a play tonight? Yeah whatever so what if it got five stars and NNNN in Now Magazine. No pressure or anything.

YIKES.

36 Little Plays About Hopeless Girls -- 10 pm -- Bread and Circus

The biggest thing is going to be not worrying about it. I am sometimes alright with nerves and sometimes they take over. Mostly nerves get me in auditions not in actual performances. So this should be fine?
It will be!!!

I can't even explain to you how badly/early it's been selling out -- so get there 90 minutes before if you're planning on buying tickets at the door. Okay? Okay.

IMG_1930

Besides that, it's been partypartyparty around here and I'm sure I will have something to say about that very soon. And photos! God do I have a backlog of photos. It's getting messy around here all the pictures that need to be sorted and edited and posted.

Whatever I still have one more week of vacation (by which I mean another week of getting another job) so I'll have time!

Okay wish me break all my legs!!

gotgotgotgot got no time

Hey Blog, what's up? I don't have time for you!

Aw, man, I've been spending all afternoon working on the scenes for that play I'm doing on Thursday and it feels soooooooo good. I love getting into the whole physicality of a new character, figuring shit out, walking it through, imagining.

Should I go to theatre school?

Probably not.
I mean, I already did a two-year diploma in Acting for Film at Humber. And first year of that was very much like a conservatory theatre school. But still....

I definitely should actually get around to opening an actor's gym though. Imagine all the voice and movement classes you could ever dream of???
So fun!

GREAT NEWS::

IMG_2100

Yep, that's right -- got a sweet new ride that you will be so jealous of whenever you see me on it because it is so beautiful all rich burgundy and shit.

IMG_2102

Secret's out - I'm only bffs with the BFF on account of her awesome family, especially her dad who gave me this bike! Gave it to me! And now I ride it! He even put my old handlebars on it for me!

IMG_2101

Life is way funner with a beautiful working bicycle. I think this is maybe the nicest bike I've had? Maybe? It makes me want to make it even better. But then for the first time I'm nervous that it'll get stolen!

OKAY GUYS BACK TO WORK I GO.

WHO KNEW HOLIDAYS COULD BE SO MUCH WORK??

Just jokes, it's partypartyparty all around here.
Except maybe a bit too much. I do like how in summer there's days where I don't seem to go home at all, but.. you know.
Over-socialized for sure.

I'm not about to stop now, though.

SO.

it appears I'm going to be pinch-hitting for a play at the Fringe here in Toronto.
I'm going to be filling in for one night of
36 Little Plays About Hopeless Girls
10p.m.
Thursday July 9th
Bread and Circus (in Kensington)

(oh yeah, I might have told you it was Friday but I was momentarily confused or something.)

Um, yeah, pretty excited/nervous. Gotta learn the play!

This is the same play as we opened for a couple of summers ago so at least I've seen it a few times also I really loved it (but seriously) so I'm excited to get to be in it for one night!

You should come!
It will be funtimez for us!
(five stars in Eye, jfyi)
Actually, you should go see this even if you can't go when I'm in it.

.

I gave it some thought, and I just want you to know that I've had enough of this garbage strike. And I definitely have enough fruit flies infesting my place because I neglected to empty my organics container regularly lately and instead am out partying 'til all hours.
ughhghhghg.

I will never leave you I will never forsake you

Oh hi.
Who wants to hear about babes?

Yeah I KNOW. Me too. Too bad for you, internet.
Ugh.

I am 100% certain that my heart is faulty and does not perform as it should. It is letting me down, always.
I embarrass myself. I know what I am doing and why. I know how there are certain people who can never be what I need them to be (decent human beings) and yet, I still ask them for things they don't have to give.

Oh repeat repeat repeat. I could at least find new words to express my continual patterns.

I had a dream last night that I was very very pregnant, with twins, and trying to prepare for it. Mostly I was worried about names. I'm practical like that. I was very worried about finding my list of names to take with me to the hospital so that I would eff up naming them.
I had some good ones but I won't tell you about them because then you'll steal them for your kids and with my luck you'll have lots of babies before I ever will.
Also I had only bought one of everything and didn't have the resources for twins.
In real life I don't even have the resources nor strength of character to support my own damn self.

Oh yeah, the play is done and we won't get to say "I will never leave you I will never forsake you" ever again. I'm kind of sad. Was sad cruising home on my bicycle last night.
I left the fringe club early thinking I was going to go party more but I ended up cruising right to my house and going inside, to bed. The fringe club was fun though, really packed and partied. We danced. I didn't feel like dancing but I still managed to break it down a bit. They were playing ridiculous shit and everyone was being silly. Lots of jiving and fake Irish jigging. Lots of obnoxious dancing. My favourite.

Last show went nicely. I hallucinated a babe in the audience and looked like a crazy person when I asked him about being there afterwards. Luckily my castmate also hallucinated a babe. Those lights are bright and hard to see through.

I'm kind of glad it's done. Now I have time to do other things. And I have a few days off work (after today) to completely chill out.
Maybe get to go to Dollface's cottage. Maybe maybe maybe hope so so hard.
Obviously.
Want to get in the lake.

I happened upon a biography radio show of Kingston Trio this morning on the radio, which was kind of a treat. I've been listening to them a lot lately.

show show showsss

Today I just feel like weeping.
That kind of a day.

But I will suck it up and do my show this afternoon. And then maybe come home and have a nap. Or maybe see some shows? I feel like seeing sad shows.

Now magazine gave us a pretty shitty review today and that sucks. My one castmate was particularly 'on' last night and they recognized that, so that's good.
I got horrendously nervous right before going on (it was the first night that anyone I knew was there) and couldn't get out of a strange funk I was feeling for the whole show. I was sitting backstage being like "I fucked it up". Which is such an awesome thing to do. Then I tried smiling really big to make myself feel better.
But that didn't work.
I think it was hard not to be as good as I was on Saturday. I felt like a failure. And I couldn't step fully into it. I was way too aware that there were people watching me.
I guess that's only fair seeing as I haven't done theatre in years and years.
Not proper theatre anyhow, with no take-backsies and no do-overs.

After the show was fun though. Our boss from the chill took me and my bff out to dinner at this nice mexican restaurant at Bloor and Shaw. We sat on the patio and had lots of food (especially good guacamole) and margaritas. Uh huh. Then we went down to the chill and sat and had an ice cream.
I had hot fudge on mine. Because I deserved it. somehow.

Then Fringe tent with my cast and my gum commercial friend was DJing and he played way, way better musics than that other horrendous DJ.
A bunch of the people from the dance shows were there and even though the club was dead, everyone who was there was breaking it down.
I sincerely love dancing however I please. It's so remarkably fun and freeing and not caring about looking a certain way..

I love to break it down.

Okay. Show time again.

200th post!

This is who I am missing these days:

The best part is clearly the music. No denying.

Oh yeah, this morning Temp-Cat brought a mouse over and put it on the carpet. It was in shock and looked dead but then she slapped it in the face and it came to. I really, really didn't know what to do about it.
My friend was over and he's a genius and a take-charge kind of a guy and he put a glass over it.
mouse in a glass!
I wanted to kill it so, so badly. But I couldn't. I couldn't come up with a way to do it. I'm a wimp. I went and put him outside.
Ugh.

Another show tonight!
I think lots of people I know are coming, so hopefully I don't eff it up.
I'm going to wear my new red dress because I wore my new navy dress last night.
The red dress is ridiculously comfortable and ridiculously short/inappropriate.
Perfect.

7.05.2008

I'm an old granny who doesn't like to have fun

Ho lee I'm tired.

I made two dresses today!!!

They're wearable, even. I'm so lucky.
I was just on the phone with my aunt and I was all "I hate sewing sewing is stupid" but it isn't actually that dumb. When it ends well (which is less often then I'd like).
But today was good. Good work, me.

I had to enhance the photos of this one so they're a bit washed out, sorry.
Navy dress:

new navy dress!
top of dress detail

(I made that big pimple on my chin bleed right before performance today. Because I am a babe.)

This one is RED. It makes all of the red things in my apartment look burgundy. I look very nice in red. This dress does not photograph well. Sort of like your mother. I know because I tried to get some nudie shots of her.. etc etc.

new red dress!

It is very comfortable and like something you would get at American Apparel. Except I didn't get it there.

Also, last night I 100% wore a pillow-case out with Sass. And I thought that was TOOOOO funny. She just said I ought to steam it.
I guess I could buy an iron someday. Maybe.

Show this morning went well.
follow your bliss
follow your bliss
Oh yeah, I die in the play.
follow your bliss
So hot.
follow your bliss
Really well for me actually (I was really on, somehow. I don't know why exactly) and alright for them, line mishap which caused some stresses.
Small house who laughed at least.. that's all we ask for.

Brunch at Aunties afterwards. That's two days in a row. Embarrassing. No, wait. Fun.

Probably fringe tent again tonight? Seems likely. I am weird these days, indecisive and near-irritable and lazy.
I don't really feel like doing anything all that much.

Where did my Party All The Time attitude get to?

I probably hooped it.

temp-cat lol-cat

I probably should've clarified that that review posted below is for the short film that I did, A Small Thing, not my fringe play, which I am currently engrossed in.
Also, thanks Robert Bell of Exclaim magazine, that's one of the heartiest compliments I've received.

The fringe review was fine.
Three stars, said the acting is strong but the plot meanders. I'll take that.

My cat's name is now Temp-Cat

temp-cat
AWWWWWWWWWW the baby.
(more nice photos of her on my flickr site.)

The best part about today was how I spent like 6 hours on a stupid sundress (for my friend, but still) and then ruined it at the last minute (salvageable, but still) so I had nothing to wear tonight (yeah it was for my friend, but still).
But then I just cut some holes in a green (colour of hospital scrubs, hot) pillow-case and wore it as a shift dress. Because I am a dork like that.
A huge, huge dork.
Evidenced below.

clense

lil halper

OMG, dudes, so ready to a successful actor.
At least I got an unexpected (small) cheque today. Thank-you again, gum people.

f you

Ugh the Eye Weekly site is being a pain in the butt.
I want to know how many stars already. That site is seriously effed.
What a tease you are, Eye Weekly!!!

Yay! First show OVER!
Now two days to chill out max and relax all cool.

It went well. Without a hitch. No one fucked it up. I couple of minor omitted lines, tongue-tripping.. but nothing major.
My castmate, Fever's, boyfriend (or "cast boyfriend" as I like to call him) came and brought us roses and a cake (fuck you cleanse). Awww. Our stage-manager's dad laughed his heart out. Which was nice since it was a pretty quiet crowd. And Fever's mum came straight from the airport from Vancouver with luggage in tow to see opening night, and she was soooo proud. Aww. Made me pretty jealous that my mum didn't get to be there. And the rest of my family too.
I think I'm going to apply to Saskatoon fringe next summer. Yeah? yeah.

We realized backstage that we'd all told our friends to come later in the run and we actually had no idea if anyone was going to show up. At all. No, really. But we ended up having 18 people. Which isn't a horrible sized audience.

Afterwards we trekked over to the Fringe club where we drank and I ate some roasted corn (so good) and had a couple of bits of ice cream and I even had beer (fuck you, wheat).
The DJ was 100% utterly completely ABYSMAL.
No seriously though.
Holy hell we're not all coked-up clubbers here. One beat is not our style. We want to break. it. down.
I finally went up to him and asked if had any Motown or even any retro Madonna.
He started playing some alright stuff and the dance floor packed. He kept the songs on for hours though. If a song was popular he'd play if for around 7 minutes. Beyond annoying.
We did dance though. And I, especially, danced like a maniac. Trying to make dancing into my work-out. And I'm actually feeling it today. Which is kind of wild. I did good work.
I need to watch more hip-hop abs videos so I can take those sweet moves to the dance floor.

Everyone wienered out early except Fever and I, we stayed for one more drink and to watch the crowd of actors. And ended up having a nice bonding session. We've never hung out much, just the two of us. It was nice.

I saw a babe and then he started dancing and then it turned out that he wasn't very babely.. he was allll shoulders. But he loved it so much. The dancing, I mean. It's hard to fault someone for looking silly when they are obviously having so much fun.
What a dilemma!

It was totally my first day to sleep in in forever and I only slept for 7 hours. wtf, body.

Ugh. ACTRA. Ugh.
I just got an email from a friend of a friend requesting my services as actor for a feature film that she is directing. Just for a little part with no pay or anything, but still. I want to be able to do whatever I'd like. I don't like when people tell me what I can and cannot do.

Have to clean up my apartment for my new temp-cat who is coming over tonight!
Excited!!!

7.02.2008

good tidings!

I feel better!
Thank you Pepto Bismol! You're just the best.
Or maybe my body had just exhausted itself by feeling ill for around 15 hours and was tired of being a bitch to me all the time.

Either way, I couldn't be happier. Well, I could be. If I was skinnier and looked better in this damn outfit I have to wear for this play. And if I were allowed to have cakes and beers tonight. (DAMN YOU WHEAT)
My castmate and I have all-but abandoned our cleanse. But whatever because I was sick for 15 hours and that's enough of a cleanse for anyone.

I don't want to jinx things, but... looks like I might be getting a temporary cat! As soon as tomorrow, maybe!
I LOVE CATS
Oh no I forgot to ask her name, no matter, I'll call her whatever I feel like calling her anyway.
She's a fat tabby cat who needs a home for a month until her owner finds a more suitable apartment.
Yay for me though.

I tried to make my mum talk me out of fostering a mama cat and 6 kittens, the best thing about my mum is how she secretly loves cats. She's into pretending that she doesn't but when she was hear she was all "I miss cats". Trying to talk me out of it all she could come up with was "What's the worst that could happen..."
Luckily I came to my senses and didn't do it.
I kind of wish I had.

Okay enough chitter chatter. Got to get to getting to the theatre. And maybe learning my lines along the way.
We'll see!

Seriously Fringe Club tonight at Tranzac. Party town. And you can even have cake.

not a creature was stirring.. except all the mice

It's like the night before Christmas around here!
Well, more like the night before my birthday, which would be two nights before Christmas. And it's hotter and there's less gifts and less crying (I always stress myself out at the holidays but I still love it don't know why) and less last-minute wrapping and more stomach upset.
But I'm excited.
That's what I mean.

My first real play in years and years! And Fringe!
I'm not going to be able to make it back to Saskatoon for this year's Fringe there, which is too bad because it has the potential to be one of the highlights of the summer. But so I have to try and make the Toronto Fringe into an extreme party time. I think it's going to be possible.

I'm quite excited about partying at the Fringe Club (at the Tranzac) - nightly free entertainment and dancing until 2. It's fun partying with actors (as long as you think being obnoxious is fun) because you can do whatever you'd like and no one will look twice.
I'm planning on being around the Fringe in general, so if you want to hang, you should come along with me.
uh huh uh huh.

Excited!

Oh yeah. Except that I'm terribly ill and have been all evening. Gross!
Super gross.
As long as it doesn't continue into tomorrow though, I'll be fine.
