funny face

Man, I'm mildly embarrassed to tell you guys this, but I've been listening to this song non-stop:

Am I insane or is this kind of lovely?
Also I dance around to it like the asshole I always I am.

HOME TIME IN WHAT? 8 DAYS?
jeezily jeezily jeezily.
trrrrrrain. I'll maybe make goals for my train journey? A writing goal? A reading goal?

Untitled
Three new flower pictures in there I got in cottage country. V, v beautiful. They are maybe my favourite.

I think I actually got a stomach ache from eating too many brussel sprouts yesterday. I am just in love with them. I keep buying more each time I'm at the grocery store thinking this time I'll make them all and have some left over for later. But, nope, I just eat them all.
I've just been half-ing them and roasting them in olive oil and salt and pepper until they are crispy outside and soft inside and then LEMON JUICE and MORE SALT.
oh man now I'm sad I don't have any.

Also I've been always doing them with cauliflower, balances them out. Yesterday I did zucchini and mushrooms as well. FUCK YEAH, VEGETABLES.
A good time to get obsessed with roasting is when it's 1000 degrees outside.

Untitled
Helped set up for the Summerworks opening party a couple of days ago. Decorating! I'll volunteer for that shit for sure, even better if it's a medium-secret party. In order to get into this room you had to go upstairs and say a password. "you know the password" it could be anything you want. I like that.

Untitled
Aww man, guys, the other day I had a babe sheepishly admit to me that Christmas is his favourite thing and he just loves carols. NAH, MAN, no apologizing for that around me, thank you very much!
Did I get a boner? Yeah, for sure I did.
Untitled
I love, love this stupid part of my room  lately. Almost better than the built-ins I'd been dreaming of? Maybe because it's so ridiculous and you know that's what I like.

Untitled

Can I take the awful screen door off of my bedroom balcony? It's awful and just in the way. I don't think it serves a purpose since the mesh is all mangled... Can I just buy one of the screen curtains?
Maybe I'll ask!

Something about this series of photos (which I took right before going to cottage last week) reminds me of Funny Girl. That one with Audrey Hepburn? The one where they pretend that she's got a weird face?

Untitled

Untitled
Now I go to work for the next so many days in a row.

Untitled
Also I ordered "business" cards from Moo because Klout said I could have them if I just paid shipping so I got some real funny (?) ones and now I just want them to get here already! I need them for my jokes! Also, I recommend if you are single to get some stupid business cards to give out because it's easier than trying to wrangle numbers or whatever. Plus it lets babes remember how you're the best.
I haven't had business cards in years, but I'm very much looking forward to these ones...

cottage dreams

I'm back from the cottage. It's much hotter in the city. The sun sets behind the cottage and it gets shady very early in the evening and cools down the house. I'm never too hot in the evenings there beside the lake. I like being chilly at night, wearing sweatpants, roasting marshmallows in the fireplace, sleeping under a big duvet.

Untitled

I like the cottage, you may have guessed.
I read zero books. I drank one hundred beers. I ate everything in sight. Had some good chats, had some really, really fantastic swims.
It's funny because I'm a bit hesitant about going into the water at first. I mean, I still do it, but I wonder if I even like swimming. But once I'm in, man. Last one out, basically always.
Last night it was pretty cool all day and then it rained a bit off and on and I took myself out on a kayak expedition around the lake just before sunset and I felt the water and it was warm, so when I got back I went swimming.
so fucking lovely. It was maybe the warmest the water was all weekend. And Dollface was in the sunroom basically ignoring me and Kaya (the dog) wasn't too whiney about me being in the lake for so long and I just dicked around in there like there was no tomorrow.
The best.

Untitled

Hopefully I will have more to say about this later. Right now I'm hot and tired. I'm refusing to get out of my bathing suit and I'm having a dinner beer. No interest in reality. No interest at all.

It was a super low-key and relaxing weekend. No mascara, no cool outfits, no one to feel awkward around.
In August I think it will be maybe 7 or 12 people or more or less and it will be way more of a party weekend and I'm excited for that. But I'm pleased at how relax-a-saurus this weekend was. Caught up on all my sleeping and lazing about.

Untitled

this bikini is from Giant Tiger. Prune had the same one at one point, I copied her by buying it. I wonder if she still owns hers.

Untitled

Thank god for blogs, otherwise what would be the point of taking all these photos.

Untitled

Probably should go see what my bender gang is up to. I haven't seen them in a couple weeks, which in bender gang time is approximately one year.

less worried about being cool

Untitled

I'm a really good mood today for the first time in weeks!

Untitled
Making refried beans? add beer and a bit of curry powder. Catdad's best tip.
My best tip? Quinoa on your tacos. Better than rice!

My body is doing a pretty good job of being a hormonal nightmare lately for no apparent reason? Seems a bit unfair, if you ask me. Maybe it's just getting everything out of the way and now will work like a dream for the rest of my life? HA.

I'm working quite a bit these days. I don't know how much I've said here but I'm working very part-time in the office at a small theatre close to my house. I like this job more than I expected but mostly WEARING MY OWN CLOTHES is the best. All my other jobs require black pants and MAN, there are only so many days in a row I can make black pants work.

Untitled
office outfit!
Watch Peever bought me in the St. Catharines Salvation Army. I'm prettttty into it.

Blogger has a whole new format and it's annoying and sorry there were no line-breaks in the last entry but hey, I didn't lose any sleep over it.

Untitled
(look I actually made a craft that I'd pinned on pinterest! ooohhh man, so many tasteful things on pinterest!!)

One of the reasons I resisted actually getting into comedy for as long as I did (and probably if there's a reason I'll shy away from it in the future) is that it's tiring to keep track of what's funny and why it's funny and how you can translate it later into a way to show other people that it's funny. It's tiring. Not awful, but it is a bit of work.
I can't count how many times in the past few months I've asked people, "what was that thing I thought was so funny earlier?"

Untitled
(Aunties for the first time in forever and it was as good as I thought it'd be.)

But now hanging around most of the time with comedy people has advantages. I think being an funny/obnoxious kid parlayed into me being an obnoxious teenager and the people I hung out with in high-school valued out-cooling each other over doing voices or accents or silly fun bits.
(and obviously people doing accents/voices who are not funny is the MOST ANNOYING)
It would have mortified me to have tried accents or characters in front of them, I think. It was hard trying to be cool. I've been caring way less about being cool with every passing moment of my life.
I'm feeling way more free these days to say every stupid thing that comes into my head. And, luckily, not all of it is horrendously annoying.
Lately I'm getting really into talking in whichever weird way I goddamn feel like! I let myself go off on tangents about whatever I like, I talk to myself in my room about whatever fictional shit I feel like.

Untitled

That's probably what one needs to do if one wants to be a character comedian. I can't just think about things in my head and then present it fully polished. Everything needs to be worked out and felt-through.
I'm already a good actor, I have a nice sense of honesty and I trust in being able to act out a scene, whether serious or comedic, but really big character work? it's hard! And maybe because of that is the most amazing?

Untitled

My voice-memo recording on my iphone has been particularly useful! I usually forget what voice I was talking in immediately after doing it, but if I record it I can recreate it, no problem!  I made a video for the Second City training centre's Naked Fridays 7 Day Shorts competition purely because I thought to record the stupid shit I was saying to myself while getting ready for work. The voice-memo app also transfers your memos into mp3s and so I could just edit it directly onto a video in imovie!! COMPUTERS ARE THE BEST THING!!
I want them to put the vid up online so that I can post it here!! It's notbad notbad. And it's one of the first character voices I'm really into/proud of.

I'm so, so happy my mum's coming out for my Second City conservatory's final show in mid-june. Especially since now I'm getting a handle on being a good worker (yeah right) and figuring out how to present/perfect/defend/polish my ideas!
Exciting times!

still waiting on my witch powers

Remember how yesterday it was so warm and fresh and spring all over?
And today is steadily getting colder and is damp and wintery? Gross.

Remember how talking about the weather is a super interesting topic and it's a really good thing I have a blog?

It should be illegal how much my mood is effected by the weather.
Luckily in a minute here my laundry will be done and I'm going to go hang out with the dog down at the lake and then pick up some groceries and then later Nic is coming over to talk about our lives and plans and stuff, and then after that I am hopefully going HOT-TUBBING (if this falls through I will be murderously upset, jfyi guys good now we're clear).

#bedside (sort of)

I thought I'd be real good at the march photo a day challenge but it turns out I'm just not good at getting around to things! So I'll be a part-time photo-a-day-er.

#myneighbourhood

this is obviously something I think is good. It's also obviously so good.

aaaaaaand this:

#somethingIwore
Out on my little balcony yesterday afternoon. I'm also drinking a really delicious smoothie here (just frozen peaches and strawberries with soy milk. thick like ice cream almost). Nice life, guy!

Yulie's back in town! She's not living with us anymore, she's moved in with her BF a few streets over. But I'm still very glad. I just love her. Probably best she's not living with me so I can't be mean to her. She's so earnest and warm. Good, good news.

I got called out by Nic the other day for being a bad worker. This is my main classic move. Not being good at working. I don't like to try for fear of failing. Guess where that's gotten me!
But also, I'm having troubles, comedy-wise, because I'm not sure I understand it all yet. Ha, obviously! What I mean, though, is that I don't know why I appreciate the things I do. I don't know how to turn a funny moment I enjoyed into a polished joke/bit/scene/etc.
I need a lot more work, but also probably a lot more guidance and I'm going to have to learn what I need and how to ask for it. Hmmmmmmm.

Just thinking about things, just thinking about it.

2.08.2012

ohhh good here is all about my weight loss plan! How fun! wonderful!

Hopefully this is the only entry that I write that is really only about dieting.

But first some points about this!
a) For a regular woman, I have a solid body. I know that, I don't really have super body-image issues, I like a good curve more than most people, I'd say.
b) I don't think everyone should be skinny. Especially skinny-skinny. Especially not unhealthy.
c) being an actor is different. The main thing you have is your appearance.
d) I will almost certainly fall off this bandwagon and pretend this never happened!

HI GUYS WANT TO KNOW ABOUT MY DIET?

the worst thing about people who are on diets is that all they talk about is their diets! Because they're huuuuungry. Just kidding I'm not very hungry right now. (medium hungry)
But the shitty, shitty thing about keeping track of a diet is that it's always on your mind.

Okay so basically I've just been using My Fitness Pal (cool name! ughhh) to track my calories and exercise.
It seems like MFP is a bit like Weight Watchers but I've never done WW or know anything about it so maybe I'm wrong?

What I like about the idea of tracking calories and exercise is that it's just math. Man, you can eat whatever you want whenever you want and you can not exercise if you don't want to, but the math will tell you why you are or are not losing weight.
MATH DOESN'T LIE.

Know what I'm saying? You can't eat a billion calories of all proteins and not do any activity and then be surprised that you aren't losing weight. And you can't eat twice as much just because you worked out.

I like that there's no tricks or rules, it's just math! So straightforward! Calories in versus calories out!

(I've been eating an ungodly amount of apples. Apples settle my stomach and calm me and I love them.)

Okay, so with this app (available for iphone, bb, android, and online), you enter in your age, height, weight, and goal and it does the math for you and lets you know what your daily "goal" is for calories.
Then in your daily diary you also enter in your cardiovascular activities and it lets you know how many calories you've burned.
I've been walking so, so much lately and feeling wonderful for it (thanks, winter).

I like the game of having a certain amount of calories to spend or earn. It's like being on a budget or having an allowance.
This may sound weird but I'm enjoying food more. I'm taking more care to think about what I'm eating and its nutritional value and taste value and how much of it I'm eating and whether I'm savouring it.

(Also I'm doing remarkably shitty and unhealthy things like saving up all of my calories for beer and nachos. Classssssic.)

For entering things in you can search it in the app and it will remember things you've chosen but you can also scan the barcodes of things you're eating! Fun! It's like an activity game!
Also you can enter your own recipes and it does all the math for you. That is basically genius, in my humble opinion.

I like that the app has a summary of what you've eaten and its nutritional value. Because I'm eating very few calories I need to be more careful that I'm getting what I need.

Obviously not!
Today I've only had some tea and some yogurt and frozen berries and I'm already over what my sugar should be. (I'm pretty much always over on sugars... sigh.)
I'm forsure taking my multivitamin again because this made me realize what maybe I wasn't getting.
I've been into vegetables and fruits in a big, big way, and also homemade soups (obviously!) because they are so simple and delicious and healthy and low-calorie.

Summary! I was maybe a bit silly about this last week. Win some, lose some.

A good thing is that when you're under your calorie goal it gives you this little message, which I think is nice and kind of effective.
I do like that when you complete an entry it tells you what you'd weigh in 5 weeks if every day was like that day. It's just true, it's not a lofty goal, it's just what will really happen if you really eat/exercise that way.

So, in summary, I hate people who talk about their diets but this video-game electronic-tracker-game actor-diet has become one of my favourite jokes and I find it weirdly enjoyable.
Also, tracking progress is rewarding. It just is.
I've lost around 7 pounds so far in the past 4 or 5 weeks. I kind of wish I owned a more accurate scale as I am fascinated/inspired by the progress!  I feel oddly powerful like a knight!
I know people swear against owning scales but I think it's a very individual thing.
Plus I'm not a competitive person, except against myself in silly ways. So I like challenging myself in fun games like this. Just to see.

Oh hey guys, you can keep track of all your "snacks"!

Also, yes, I am very, very worried about losing all my boobs. In case you guys were wondering.

OKAY SOME QUICK THINGS ON MY MIND ABOUT DIETS:

1) Water. So much water all the time.
If I'm hungry I have a glass of water to assess if I'm actually hungry. Water before food. Helps me realize if I'm full.

2) Virtually every skinny person is more careful about food than you would realize/they would let on.

3) It's okay to be hungry for a minute.
Somewhere along the line I got a weird panic about food/being hungry. I think it's that I am able to eat so few things that food seems scarce in my life. Ha!
I'm kind of into the anticipation of most things in life so food is becoming like that. I like being hungry while I put together a wonderful lunch. So delicious in a minute!

4) Alcohol is just calories. Sooooo many calories. You cannot drink all the beers every day and be a skinny guy. My mother will be pleased to hear that I'm drinking less because of this weird game. You're welcome, mother.

okay this is an embarrassing entry to have written for a bunch of reasons! Cool! Great! I hate diets!
