ohhh good here is all about my weight loss plan! How fun! wonderful!

Hopefully this is the only entry that I write that is really only about dieting.

But first some points about this!
a) For a regular woman, I have a solid body. I know that, I don't really have super body-image issues, I like a good curve more than most people, I'd say.
b) I don't think everyone should be skinny. Especially skinny-skinny. Especially not unhealthy.
c) being an actor is different. The main thing you have is your appearance.
d) I will almost certainly fall off this bandwagon and pretend this never happened!

HI GUYS WANT TO KNOW ABOUT MY DIET?

the worst thing about people who are on diets is that all they talk about is their diets! Because they're huuuuungry. Just kidding I'm not very hungry right now. (medium hungry)
But the shitty, shitty thing about keeping track of a diet is that it's always on your mind.

Okay so basically I've just been using My Fitness Pal (cool name! ughhh) to track my calories and exercise.
It seems like MFP is a bit like Weight Watchers but I've never done WW or know anything about it so maybe I'm wrong?

What I like about the idea of tracking calories and exercise is that it's just math. Man, you can eat whatever you want whenever you want and you can not exercise if you don't want to, but the math will tell you why you are or are not losing weight.
MATH DOESN'T LIE.

Know what I'm saying? You can't eat a billion calories of all proteins and not do any activity and then be surprised that you aren't losing weight. And you can't eat twice as much just because you worked out.

I like that there's no tricks or rules, it's just math! So straightforward! Calories in versus calories out!

(I've been eating an ungodly amount of apples. Apples settle my stomach and calm me and I love them.)

Okay, so with this app (available for iphone, bb, android, and online), you enter in your age, height, weight, and goal and it does the math for you and lets you know what your daily "goal" is for calories.
Then in your daily diary you also enter in your cardiovascular activities and it lets you know how many calories you've burned.
I've been walking so, so much lately and feeling wonderful for it (thanks, winter).

I like the game of having a certain amount of calories to spend or earn. It's like being on a budget or having an allowance.
This may sound weird but I'm enjoying food more. I'm taking more care to think about what I'm eating and its nutritional value and taste value and how much of it I'm eating and whether I'm savouring it.

(Also I'm doing remarkably shitty and unhealthy things like saving up all of my calories for beer and nachos. Classssssic.)

For entering things in you can search it in the app and it will remember things you've chosen but you can also scan the barcodes of things you're eating! Fun! It's like an activity game!
Also you can enter your own recipes and it does all the math for you. That is basically genius, in my humble opinion.

I like that the app has a summary of what you've eaten and its nutritional value. Because I'm eating very few calories I need to be more careful that I'm getting what I need.

Obviously not!
Today I've only had some tea and some yogurt and frozen berries and I'm already over what my sugar should be. (I'm pretty much always over on sugars... sigh.)
I'm forsure taking my multivitamin again because this made me realize what maybe I wasn't getting.
I've been into vegetables and fruits in a big, big way, and also homemade soups (obviously!) because they are so simple and delicious and healthy and low-calorie.

Summary! I was maybe a bit silly about this last week. Win some, lose some.

A good thing is that when you're under your calorie goal it gives you this little message, which I think is nice and kind of effective.
I do like that when you complete an entry it tells you what you'd weigh in 5 weeks if every day was like that day. It's just true, it's not a lofty goal, it's just what will really happen if you really eat/exercise that way.

So, in summary, I hate people who talk about their diets but this video-game electronic-tracker-game actor-diet has become one of my favourite jokes and I find it weirdly enjoyable.
Also, tracking progress is rewarding. It just is.
I've lost around 7 pounds so far in the past 4 or 5 weeks. I kind of wish I owned a more accurate scale as I am fascinated/inspired by the progress!  I feel oddly powerful like a knight!
I know people swear against owning scales but I think it's a very individual thing.
Plus I'm not a competitive person, except against myself in silly ways. So I like challenging myself in fun games like this. Just to see.

Oh hey guys, you can keep track of all your "snacks"!

Also, yes, I am very, very worried about losing all my boobs. In case you guys were wondering.

OKAY SOME QUICK THINGS ON MY MIND ABOUT DIETS:

1) Water. So much water all the time.
If I'm hungry I have a glass of water to assess if I'm actually hungry. Water before food. Helps me realize if I'm full.

2) Virtually every skinny person is more careful about food than you would realize/they would let on.

3) It's okay to be hungry for a minute.
Somewhere along the line I got a weird panic about food/being hungry. I think it's that I am able to eat so few things that food seems scarce in my life. Ha!
I'm kind of into the anticipation of most things in life so food is becoming like that. I like being hungry while I put together a wonderful lunch. So delicious in a minute!

4) Alcohol is just calories. Sooooo many calories. You cannot drink all the beers every day and be a skinny guy. My mother will be pleased to hear that I'm drinking less because of this weird game. You're welcome, mother.

okay this is an embarrassing entry to have written for a bunch of reasons! Cool! Great! I hate diets!

sometimes we're up sometimes we're down!

"next time you see me, give me a glass of water and a punch in the chin" - friend who went out drinking more without me last night at 2:45

YIKES

I'm going to call that friend Firehorse. Why? because.
He is one of the band of pals who are being the ultimate worst influences on me these days. And me on them. the problem is that at least one of us will want to go out. which means we convince the others. It's bad. it's pretty bad.

okay we're going to cool it. soon.

Next week I have no work so maybe I will cocoon and work hard by myself? That seems likely!

fuck yeah stressful life lately

I slept for 13 hours the other night. Catching up? Stocking up? It could go either way.

Name one aspect of my life that isn't stressing me out and I'll give a gift (just kidding, I don't have energy left for gift-giving!).

It's funny how I find stress rather incapacitating. Always have, I guess. But you'd think I would have found a way to deal with it. Besides drinking, I mean. I need a constructive way. Why aren't I a stress-cleaner?

These are just some pictures I've been taking lately.

I basically live at the Hoops on Queen St. In case you were unclear about my latest lifestyle shift.

I love Hoops. I don't know if I love it as much as Norman loves it, but probably pretty close.

part one is that I like the joke of it. I mean, who am I to make Hoops my home base bar? Who am I to be a Canucks fan?

part two is that I seriously like this bar. I really like the bartenders -- they are friendly and unpretentious and funny. I like that there is always a place to sit. I like the beardy-plaids who watch the game with tense concentration. I like that it's not loud and I can talk about whatever and wear whatever and order lots of fries. I like the white noise of sports going on around me.
And I'm getting kind of into Canucks games. I don't know why! It's fucking stressful, though. I'm getting a worry-line from frowning at the giant screen.
I've learned several things about hockey lately, like did you know if you get a penalty then they don't just send another player in for you! Weird, hey?

(above photo is just for dollface, pretty much, hopefully she can see why.)

Kaya thinks I am too beautiful, it hurts to look at me.

I'd never been on the other side of that little bridge and I discovered a bit of a secret garden down the steps. Empty and quiet, just this tiny military gave memorial in between the traintracks and a parking lot.

We stayed a bit.

spring spring spring soon I hope

I heard a bird that sounded like a car alarm, or maybe a stadium fire alarm yesterday in that tree. Then I found it in a tree and it was really really really red! A redbird, I believe it's called.

I'm a superb nature photographer, and you're welcome.

hahaha Lucinda Bright is such an asshole, hey?

Have you guys played with fuckyeahnouns.com?? So goddamn fun.

hahahhhahahahaaahaha this one is my favourite. that's definitely from a clothing swap at my house. Mrs looks classy as always.
awww look at my babies. the little twinners.

Norman was disappointed in this one being what it picked out for him, but I think it's pretty wonderful.

I have played with that website forever now.

Okay. I'm going to go try to sort my situ. At least a bit. Hopefully. We'll see. ughghghg. Wanna buy me treats? okay you can.

1.11.2011

once you've got it, how do you keep it? (my hair as a metaphor for life)

It takes a concerted effort for me to leave the house without mascara on. Even if it's just to walk the dog. I try to do it from time to time to prove that I'm still the don't-care hippie I imagine myself to be.

Luckily I am nothing if not completely enamored with my hair today. If my hair looked like this every day my life would be complete. How did I even get it to this colour? Why won't this colour last? Honestly, though, how do I keep it?
Lately everyone is dying their hair red (exaggeration) and now I have conversation after conversation about trying to get a good shade and then keep it. It's quite amazingly stupid, really! Amazing.

I thought I wanted it to be more Emma Stone's colour in Easy A,

But I'm okay with what my hair is doing right now. Though I still do like that darker colour.
WOW THIS BLOG IS LIKE A ROLLERCOASTER RIDE

Hey, look, the dog!
Probably Lucinda Bright (my foster cat) is getting very jealous about how many dog photos I'm posting. Just kidding, she's not allowed to go on the internet.
ugh, sorry. I feel like I'm getting lamer by the second.
I'm getting more and more into bad puns and lame word jokes, also. I think it's because I expect other people to make them more and I want to get there first. Almost fair.

My stomach was being dumb and so I hung out at Dollface's and watched TV for a bit today. I like walking DF's dog but I would never want to walk other people dogs. Just Kaya. Also because I never worry if DF will be annoyed I'm watching her TV or touching her things. Also because Kaya is a low-stress dog, she's pretty easy going and a good walking companion. Aww.

I don't really have any shifts at work this week. I feel alright about that. Terrifyingly poor, yes, but excited to relax about, hibernate a bit, and get some work done. And next month is lots of shifts (fingers crossed).
I meant to write all day yesterday but really only got into it around 11 p.m. or so. It's alright because I got a lot alot done by the time I decided to pack it in around 3.
The stuff I'm working on is alright. But then I started reading a couple of other scripts that I didn't write and they were great. I was a bit jealous. Got to get past the jealousy and just do the work.
I know I've said it before, but man, I would really prefer if I were great at everything right off the bat and never had to actually work at things.
Classic deservist attitude.

Pineapple-shaped tea ball which was a gift from Violet awhile ago, still one of my favourites. Saskabush tea (Saskatoon berries and rosehips and things) from Cuppa Tea in Lawson Mall in Saskatoon.

I made soup! Ha, everyone is surprised. What else would I make?

It looks thick. I like it like that. If you like a thinner soup, add more water, I don't care.

TOMATO LENTIL QUINOA SOUP
1 medium onion
1/4 zucchini
1/2 red pepper
6 button mushrooms
1 can crushed tomatoes
1/2 cup lentils
1/2 cup quinoa
2 cups of vegetable stock
some Italian seasoning blend

This is exactly like all the other soups I make (especially like the one that's just curry instead of tomatoes, leave me alone), and all the ingredients are 100% approximates. Just cut everything up and then put all the ingredients in and cook it forever. You can put in other vegetables or not these vegetables!  I fried up the onions and mushrooms in a bit of butter and olive oil first. You don't have to. You can do whatever you like, really.
I lovelove the combination of lentils and quinoa. So filling in a great way.

Ha, I made apple-strawberry crisp the other day and my friend came over and he said, "why?"
What a question! Like there ever needs to be a reason for a crisp.

I haven't been able to find a good day planner yet for the year (and I depend on my dayplanner/notebooks so much!), so I'm going to go about marking up a blank book to make it into one. Hey, I have the time. Plus then I can make it the best ever.
I have to find a great movie to watch while I do so. Lately I've watched:
Black Swan (liked it)
Easy A (liked it)
All Good Things (liked it)

Those are my reviews. You're welcome.
