then my mum got a leech on her toe

In 1993, on the beach at Lac Eau Clair, my uncle digs out pits in the sand for me and my cousins to lay our towels in. We feel luxurious in these personalized beach chairs.  My cousins are all girls and are all older than me, and when we wade into the salty water slowly we agree not to splash each other or push each other over. The water is never close to warm, we go in a bit, come back out, try it again, bobbing deeper trying to get accustomed to the numbing cold. My uncle runs at top speed (jean shorts instead of swim trunks) straight in and as soon as possible he dives all the way under. I wonder if his SPF 8 sunscreen does anything at all. He has the reddest neck, which seems more than fitting, and his face is so similar to my mother's (don't tell her that).
I try to refuse sunscreen altogether because I think maybe this year I'll finally get a tan (it's not).
When we come, shivering, out of the lake, we wrap up in at least two towels, covering everything, even our eyes and let the sun heat us through the layers. I use my mother's lypsyl and get sand in the lid.

I wish I learned when I was small how much easier it is to just run right in, fully immerse instead of edging my way into the cold.

Being back in Saskatoon is a bit like missing a few episodes of a TV show. Like maybe you read the synopsis of them on imdb but you don't really get the full story and you have to really imagine all of what you've been missing if you want to get back in the game.

I'm home!

I don't have any time to update right now because for some reason I went to sleep at 6:30 in the evening last night (a bit drunk of the pina coladas at my cousin's shower) and then woke up at 8 a.m. this morning.
I was a bit tired.

Now I'm going to go to the lake for the day!!

LAKE LAKE LAKE LAKE LAKE LAKE LAKE

of course it was hottest the morning we had to leave

back from cottage country -- it was pouring pouring buckets of rain as we got back into the city but I still made it to work on time (barely).

I feel very strange to not have had one single bloody mary today.
Holy, Hal Johnson and I practically lived off those things -- lots of vitamins in the tomato juice at least.

I guess I'm going to have to start thinking about editing all those awesome photos I took and think about rounding-up some of the fun things that we did.

Working the next few days in a row, I know that I deserve to have to work, but I still really don't want to.

Oh yeah, I booked my trip to Saskatoon at the end of August. Did I tell you that already? I'll be there from the 25th until the 2nd I believe.
I'm very very excited. I had kind of resigned myself to not going, wasn't expecting to see the fam before Christmas really, but now that it's booked I can feel free to get really riled up about it!
Planning on going up to Redberry Lake for at least a night, hopefully two. Planning on seeing all my besties and partying down a bit. I hear my brother got a new car, you know what that means: getting driven around everywhere!

Also, Dollface and I are planning to go the cottage in September or October as well, I think a fall cottage vacation would be killer killer fun.
I'm way into vacationing. New favourite passtime.

I can't believe it was only this morning that I swam and kicked about in the water, it feels like last week already.

Tilda Swinton is very very glad to see me at least. Niki was awesome and looked in on her for me but I can tell she's been lonely lonely.
She should probably get a real home soon, one with proper owners who are more responsible and have time for affections and attentions. Sigh.

life is good and then you die

Tonight, walking home at 4 a.m, I was more, more than happy that it wasn't freezing out. It was maybe 10 degrees, which is not hot, but it makes such a difference, walks are't painful trials anymore, they're kind of treats..
I felt lucky to get to walk along.

Poor friends at Lakeview Lunch, they are tired of me being there all the time. no, not really, I'm sure they like me. Especially on nights like tonight where I really didn't yell at all.

Congratulations!

I told Cpt. that I would tell people I was half leprechaun in order to pick up babes and he said "do not tell people you are half something-creepy"
good point.
oh man man man I am so excited for spring. I am beyond glad that it is coming our way. All I want is warm sun on me and lakes.

Last night I dreamt about Redberry Lake (our Saskatchewan lake) and how it sparkles and sparkles in the sun like you would not even believe.....
It's so amazing. You should come and see it with me sometime.
