ohhh good here is all about my weight loss plan! How fun! wonderful!

Hopefully this is the only entry that I write that is really only about dieting.

But first some points about this!
a) For a regular woman, I have a solid body. I know that, I don't really have super body-image issues, I like a good curve more than most people, I'd say.
b) I don't think everyone should be skinny. Especially skinny-skinny. Especially not unhealthy.
c) being an actor is different. The main thing you have is your appearance.
d) I will almost certainly fall off this bandwagon and pretend this never happened!

HI GUYS WANT TO KNOW ABOUT MY DIET?

the worst thing about people who are on diets is that all they talk about is their diets! Because they're huuuuungry. Just kidding I'm not very hungry right now. (medium hungry)
But the shitty, shitty thing about keeping track of a diet is that it's always on your mind.

Okay so basically I've just been using My Fitness Pal (cool name! ughhh) to track my calories and exercise.
It seems like MFP is a bit like Weight Watchers but I've never done WW or know anything about it so maybe I'm wrong?

What I like about the idea of tracking calories and exercise is that it's just math. Man, you can eat whatever you want whenever you want and you can not exercise if you don't want to, but the math will tell you why you are or are not losing weight.
MATH DOESN'T LIE.

Know what I'm saying? You can't eat a billion calories of all proteins and not do any activity and then be surprised that you aren't losing weight. And you can't eat twice as much just because you worked out.

I like that there's no tricks or rules, it's just math! So straightforward! Calories in versus calories out!

(I've been eating an ungodly amount of apples. Apples settle my stomach and calm me and I love them.)

Okay, so with this app (available for iphone, bb, android, and online), you enter in your age, height, weight, and goal and it does the math for you and lets you know what your daily "goal" is for calories.
Then in your daily diary you also enter in your cardiovascular activities and it lets you know how many calories you've burned.
I've been walking so, so much lately and feeling wonderful for it (thanks, winter).

I like the game of having a certain amount of calories to spend or earn. It's like being on a budget or having an allowance.
This may sound weird but I'm enjoying food more. I'm taking more care to think about what I'm eating and its nutritional value and taste value and how much of it I'm eating and whether I'm savouring it.

(Also I'm doing remarkably shitty and unhealthy things like saving up all of my calories for beer and nachos. Classssssic.)

For entering things in you can search it in the app and it will remember things you've chosen but you can also scan the barcodes of things you're eating! Fun! It's like an activity game!
Also you can enter your own recipes and it does all the math for you. That is basically genius, in my humble opinion.

I like that the app has a summary of what you've eaten and its nutritional value. Because I'm eating very few calories I need to be more careful that I'm getting what I need.

Obviously not!
Today I've only had some tea and some yogurt and frozen berries and I'm already over what my sugar should be. (I'm pretty much always over on sugars... sigh.)
I'm forsure taking my multivitamin again because this made me realize what maybe I wasn't getting.
I've been into vegetables and fruits in a big, big way, and also homemade soups (obviously!) because they are so simple and delicious and healthy and low-calorie.

Summary! I was maybe a bit silly about this last week. Win some, lose some.

A good thing is that when you're under your calorie goal it gives you this little message, which I think is nice and kind of effective.
I do like that when you complete an entry it tells you what you'd weigh in 5 weeks if every day was like that day. It's just true, it's not a lofty goal, it's just what will really happen if you really eat/exercise that way.

So, in summary, I hate people who talk about their diets but this video-game electronic-tracker-game actor-diet has become one of my favourite jokes and I find it weirdly enjoyable.
Also, tracking progress is rewarding. It just is.
I've lost around 7 pounds so far in the past 4 or 5 weeks. I kind of wish I owned a more accurate scale as I am fascinated/inspired by the progress!  I feel oddly powerful like a knight!
I know people swear against owning scales but I think it's a very individual thing.
Plus I'm not a competitive person, except against myself in silly ways. So I like challenging myself in fun games like this. Just to see.

Oh hey guys, you can keep track of all your "snacks"!

Also, yes, I am very, very worried about losing all my boobs. In case you guys were wondering.

OKAY SOME QUICK THINGS ON MY MIND ABOUT DIETS:

1) Water. So much water all the time.
If I'm hungry I have a glass of water to assess if I'm actually hungry. Water before food. Helps me realize if I'm full.

2) Virtually every skinny person is more careful about food than you would realize/they would let on.

3) It's okay to be hungry for a minute.
Somewhere along the line I got a weird panic about food/being hungry. I think it's that I am able to eat so few things that food seems scarce in my life. Ha!
I'm kind of into the anticipation of most things in life so food is becoming like that. I like being hungry while I put together a wonderful lunch. So delicious in a minute!

4) Alcohol is just calories. Sooooo many calories. You cannot drink all the beers every day and be a skinny guy. My mother will be pleased to hear that I'm drinking less because of this weird game. You're welcome, mother.

okay this is an embarrassing entry to have written for a bunch of reasons! Cool! Great! I hate diets!

so beautiful it hurts to look at them

If I don't get these I will CRY FOR ONE YEAR.
I am in love with them.
This is all I want. I was walking down college this morning and I passed by a place with them in a window and I stopped to admire them then I found them down the street for sale at Ziggy's. WANT THEM.
I just google image searched and found this picture but this is basically them.
I will buy them for myself after Christmas if no one buys them for me. But I don't know why you wouldn't buy these for me. Look at how goddamn tasteful these fuckers are. Outrageous.
I can't handle this fucking beauty.
Does anyone else love them this much? if so you better speak up because I will buy them for you (they are rather expensive, not really, kind of) because I believe they should be hung up everywhere and I'll believe your love is true.

I will hang them up in my windows all year. I will make mobiles for my babies out of these.

ANYWAY.

I accidentally partied last night and didn't get much sleep at all and then I had a coffee (after taking my bike to get fixed, I'm sooo productive) and now I want to barf from over-tired-too-much-caffeine.

Flash Gordon was being the best last night she was fucking killing me. It's funny how you can vaguely know people for years but then you aren't really buds and then when you're finally good buds you're like "why didn't we do this earlier?".
I feel that way about both Flash Gordon and Dayna these days.

instant-classic texts from Flash Gordon today:

"and to think you thought he was babin' to the moon"
(re: my poor first impression of someone who fooled me with their beard. ahahahaa fooled me with their beard)

"if we were rule followers, we would have given up. but we are not... That's not how we love. That's not our way."
AHAAHHHHHAHAAH.

I take so much pleasure in being ridiculous all day long. Except when I get tired. I get tired of being me occasionally. I think that's fair. I wouldn't want to be anyone else, though.
Plussss I am 95% certain that this next year is going to be pretty much the best ever. I don't have any concrete evidence to support this, just a gut feeling.
A gut feeling that life's about to become excellent.

SIGH.

there is nothing more beautiful to me than snowflakes.

Now that my bike is fixed I guess can ride it to work today since it's nice-ish out.  But having it broken meant I was forced to walk everywhere and I've been enjoying walking more than ever and walking for probably close to two hours every day has made me feel good in several different ways. Plus it's shaping up my butt so good. Not kidding at all. Also my core feels stronger and my posture is better and I get so many ideas when I'm walking, sort through a lot of stuff.

hmmm. I kind of wish I'd had a nap.

I tried to wash my shirt on his abs, he was not impressed

Plates!
IMG_6606
Hey I have that plate in the middle there. And I want all those plates around it. I don't know what this plate exhibit was about but i did take pictures of the plates.

IMG_6608
Want want want want want want plates!
IMG_6609
Actually I have a lot of plates these days, I really do need more bowls, though. And mugs.
IMG_6610
This was all outside of the theatre when we went to see Sex and the City 2.

Inside:
IMG_6601
I wish that my flash had been working more properly, this picture is so classic! That guy looked like a statue for sure. How degrading. I wasn't even sure about getting my photo taken with him, it made me too uncomfortable. Also, is that guy a babe? I can't tell.
IMG_6761
They gave us framed prints of us with this dude. Where would I display this????????
I have never looked so terrified.

Yessssssssss partying with Raymi is always fun. In case you were wondering. Did it again last night, in fact.

I didn't bring my camera out last night to the Rethink Romp so you'll have to wait til I can grab them off her site/or the event's site.

So just look at these photos from a week or so ago, instead. Another time when Raymi brought me to swag bags.

IMG_6604
There was underwear in the swag bag. And a gift certificate for more underwear (did you get it yet, Raymi?). Because if you're going to be having sex in the city you need underwear.
IMG_6605
While we were in this washroom (while Raymi got changed for a date) we were privy to a whole exchange between to older women about how they wear their spanx (spanks? who knows!). It was pretty funny. The one woman trying to shake her friend into her spanks. Hahaah awwkward.

IMG_6621
Ruth Buzzi likes swag.
Or at least the bags and tissue from the swag.
IMG_6614
IMG_6620
I gave away most of the Nair products now, and a bunch of those warming-lube condoms (gross!).
Ha, I ran into a guy I'd turned down for a date a few months ago and gave him a box of condoms.
Rude, or encouraging?

Aw man, I've been sitting here all dressed to go to the gym for about an hour. Maybe I should actually get around to that. Also planning on buying a tonnnne of groceries and carting them home on my mule-bike. And then I'm going to make some delicious eats for shooting tomorrow!

5.10.2010

can I wear sweatpants to brunch?

I took pictures for my band, Entire Cities (notice that it says on their myspace that I am in the band, therefore I am not a liar), last night.
7 people in one shoot? So many eyes! So many eyes that could be closed! Too many closed eyes!
I thought it was pretty fun/funny though. I'm a funny photographer who isn't really sure about being a photographer at all. I'm down to take photos, though. And I take more photos than the average guy.. so I guess I'm a photographer. For a photographer, I sure don't know much, though.
Who wants to teach me???

I also went the Entire Cities show at Rancho. No one was dancing but I still danced but for one song only. But man, dancing on your own when everyone is standing slightly back from the stage? No good.
There's no way to not feel like a heel.
I love Entire Cities, though. So warm and lovely and I sing along all the way.

I also got to see our old pal, Slippers. You might also remember him as my husband.
IMG_1725

I've spent a lot of time in my life having "fake" husbands, hey?
Oh no, have I actually never posted pictures from that wedding? Really? Only to facebook? Is that true?
I hadn't seen Slippers in forevers, as he'd been living away for awhile.
Upon greeting him,
Meredith: "I've been unfaithful!"
Slippers: "What!"
Meredith: "But only once and it only lasted a minute and he pulled out! That barely counts, right??"

hahaa then later we were talking about how the first thing that many people (me) think about when something interesting happens is "Wow, this is going to make a great story, when can I tell it to people??"
Whereas Slippers said that was his 4th reaction. I asked what were the first three.
1) Can I make this sexier?
2) Can anyone else make this sexier?
3) Can I eat this?

He also added a #5:
5) Is there time to take a picture?

Ha. Classic!

Anyway.
Yeah, I went the gym both Saturday and Sunday.
So What? Do I deserve rewards? Probably. Do I deserve congratulations? Almost certainly. Will I keep this up? Very unlikely.

Before the gym I went and got my extreme flat tire fixed. I had just gotten my whole bike tuned up and fixed and then the next day I came outside to get on it and the front tire was so flat that it was almost off the wheel. Annoying!
So I took it up to the place on Harbord, what it called? Ah, yes, The Bike Joint. They were very nice and I liked it because the two women there were gently singing along to Regina Spektor.
Anyway, I also bought a bell shaped like a teapot.
IT IS SO CUTE.

I didn't even need a bell (though mine is broken-looking, it still works) but I had to have it.

It is similar to this one on Amazon, but with no symbol. It is too cute.
I saw one on a bike outside of Aunties the other day and I'd been thinking of them ever since.
Only $5 at The Bike Joint.

Nothing like riding a freshly tuned-up bike.
So smooth!
So free!
Now I remember why I like biking. So fun.

I also hit up Value Village yesterday. I bought another tiny teapot. I don't know why, it was just a teapot kind of a day. Also got a funny handbag that I need to put a long strap on so I can wear it across my back for bike-riding.

Also picked up some funny black sweatpants, they're sort of short and stylized sort of like ones you'd get at Am Appy and then people were wearing them to the bar for a bit and you were like "hey, why are you wearing sweatpants to the bar?"
Also, finally bought running shoes. I haven't owned proper running shoes since grade school!
These are super nice and simple. I knew Value Village would come through for me! They are navy and white and tough-looking.
People will know I am very serious about SPORTS.
ha, jk. No sports.

She & Him, eh? Volume Two, eh?
yeah I'm feeling it.

BRUNCH TIMEZ.

4.30.2010

biking to work in the sun is not as good as lying around in the shade

IMG_6236

ONLY FOUR MORE SHIFTS TO GO UNTIL VACATION.

And by vacation, I just mean several days off in a row. like maybe 13. Maybe one shift in there at some point? Who knows. Anyhow, working two different jobs tomorrow and one tonight and one on Sunday.
I have one billion plans until Tuesday. Then Tuesday onwards I have nothing really planned. Let's make some plans!
Who wants to take me on a trip?

During my time off I am going to get so much done! Or at least catch up on sleep.

I did actually end up going out last night. Until 3. Why did that happen!
It was Raymi's fault. And mine for being too easy to sway. Met her at Brooklyn bar and then moved to Salvadore Darling.

This world is so small. I ran into a girl from Saskatoon who I went to high-school with there. I was supposed to have brunch with her today but that didn't end up happening, but at least we partied last night. Seriously, this whole world is so small.

IMG_6285

So I was up until 5 a.m. looking at the internet. Because when I come home after drinking I frequently just get carried away looking at random things and linking around. So dumb.

Slept in until noon and then somehow managed to get up and showered and go to the gym with Mrs. I'm kind of amazed with myself. It's good to have people to meet at the gym because then you can't wiener out of it like I was fully planning on doing.
I'm sore!
Obviously.

IMG_6288

These pictures are just like the pictures from yesterday only with slight variations. I know I know.

IMG_6239

I wish I had time to relax all day right now. I'd like to go to the park and read in the sun. Or shade. Yeah, in the shade.

IMG_6291

So I'm officially having a clothing swap on Monday. I invited a bunch of really nice ladies but I don't think it'll be too crowded in here, probably just right? I hope so!
I'm going to be making my (famous) sangria and my (famous) guacamole and maybe some cookies?
I wish gluten-free baking was easier and less expensive. It probably will be later on because everyone is sort of realizing how hard gluten is to digest, lots of people are going gluten-free or just eating way less.
Pretty good.

I'm planning on cleaning and finishing up organizing this place on Monday so hopefully I'll have photos of it for you then (Mum and Sass/Joey, mostly). It's not exciting really at all now I am building it up. oHhhh wells.

IMG_6251

4.29.2010

tiny strawberry print!

IMG_6227

heythere, good news, I'm in a good mood. So don't worry or anything, no need to get me flowers (get me flowers.) or anything.

IMG_6264

Aww man, I'm so productive it's kind of sick. I didn't even go out last night because I'm responsible and I may not go out tonight, either. I haven't done any writing lately, though. Nor the blogging I should be doing. So I want to get to that.

IMG_6232

Today I got up at 8, did some push-ups, crunches, stretches, and vocal warm-ups, I worked on my lines for a bit then biked to logan for an audition. Then I did the audition (didn't go awesome, too many words! what am I, literate?). Then I biked to the central Y. I was disappointed to realize they don't yet have the Gravity machines, but I did the eliptical for a bit, then some machines, then the rowing one for a bit. I like the rowing one.

IMG_6275

Then I went shopping!
Which is when I bought the dress featured in these photos. LOVE THIS DRESS.
It was more than I usually spend ($30. leave me alone.) but too perfect. I may have also got a couple other little items. Ughhh so pretty. I'd never been in Forever 21 before and now I can't go back because I spent too much money. It's okay though because I'm rich. Hmm.

IMG_6279

Then I biked over to Aunties to meet Violet for brunch. It felt like it was around 4 p.m. because I am so used to getting up at 11, but really it was only 12:30. Wild!
So Violet and I had a lovely brunch and Cpt. Heh cooked it for us. Did I say yet that Cpt. Heh works at Aunties now? Did I? Who can keep track! It's funny because Cpt. Heh and McGruff (who is our bud/server) both think Violet is very pretty. Maybe because she is. But probably because they are just tired of seeing me and she's fresher to them. haaaha. um.

IMG_6283

Now I am at home and I just took an absurd amount of pictures of myself and of Ruth Buzzi and now I'm editing them and posting them and blogging. I am also burning a CD of the photos I took of those Weather Station-ers to give to Miss. Lindeman and then I'm going to bike to work. Then I'm going to walk Kaya. Then I'm going to sleep at some point. Then I think gym again tomorrow. Mrs, you wanta do aquafit in the morning? Probably not, she's getting ready to have a BBQ.

IMG_6224
IMG_6256
IMG_6257

I wish I could write out the jokes I make to customers at work but they wouldn't translate well, I don't think. It's pretty fun sometimes though. My cute co-worker IDed a guy (we ID under 30) who was like
"you think I'm young? you think I'm your age?"
and she said "I think you look around 30 or under"
and he came back with "hey maybe we should date if you think I'm your age"
and I was like "Hey, yeah, hey you should go on a date with him! This is your big chance! You never get to go on dates, no one ever asks you out! You've always wanted a date!"
haha super enthusiastic-like. She gets asked out about 7 times a shift. That sort of took the piss out of him.
See that didn't translate well.
Hmm.
I dance around a lot at work. Sometimes they play songs I like I like at the end after mostly everyone is gone they play Closing Time by Leonard Cohen occasionally.

Um, is Drake growing on anyone else a bit?

IMG_6284
IMG_6225

Yeah I still have more photos like this. Laterz I guess.

Now I have to go try not to eat all the Nibs.

4.28.2010

a bea see dee eeeee eff gee haych ai

Hopefully I didn't already post these photos from Raymi's birthday. That would be embarrassing.

IMG_6148

Yesssss I got my Y membership all done and good today. Now I don't have to always go with Mrs. now I can go by myself, too. Holy shit I'm going to be so tough. I will have to swear more and wear more shirts with cut-off sleeves. ha, I wore a shirt to the Y the other day that I had cut the sleeves off. Mrs. liked it for sure.

IMG_6147

I just spent a lot at the liquor store. I wasn't even thirsty.
Setting a little display on the table. Want to have more liquor around for me and my guests. It's a nice thing to be able to offer. And a nice thing to have to display. And a nice thing to drink forever.
I went to Mrs.'s house the other day and she had a tray in the front room with boozes on it. I was jealous. God, what is this blog, Mrs.'s life story??

IMG_6143
IMG_6136

I bought:
a) gin
b) scotch
c) TEQUILA

IMG_6139
IMG_6132

tequila tonics are my new favourite drink. I drank them last night on my drinking tour of ossington with Dollface. We went to Betty's, Commie's, and Lakeview Lunch. At the lakeview lunch we did not have
a) three-cheese grilled-cheese
b) onion rings
c) sweet potato fries
d) regular fries
e) veggie burger, no bun (my standard)

instead we got salads. Healthy timez. yeah as well as being tough I am going to be filled with vitamins.

IMG_6149
IMG_6153

TEQUILA AND VITAMINS.

hey have you tried those gummy vitamins from Shoppers? They make me remember to take
my vitamins because they are delicious.

IMG_6141
IMG_6131

I also spent a lot at Dollarama today. I always feel really guilty about shopping at Dollarama but not for shopping in chinatown and shit... I should just feel guilty all the time, cover my bases.
I bought:
a) bike lights (two sets. $1.50 each, so you know.)
b) batteries for the bike lights
c) compact florescent lightbulbs
d) a smooth egg-shaped stone
e) a ceramic plant pot
f) sunglasses (weirdly super comfortable)
g) cheese and broccoli rice
h) wicker basket
i) wicker basket
j) wicker basket
k) set of 5 pens
l) set of 4 pens
m) set of 6 pens
o) nibs
p) nylons

I think that's almost all. Pretty good haul, I'll tell you that much for free. And man, their wicker is so cheap! and shitty, I know I know.

IMG_6137

So, yeah, I had that recall this morning but it was kind of like the beginning episode of ANTM where all the girls are there but then they tell some of them they can leave. Yeah I was told I could leave, some people got to stick around and compete for the chance of becoming Bagel's next top advocate.
That's okay though because usually you just never hear and eventually you sort of figure out that you didn't get it. At least I know.
Plus, I don't even eat bagels!

Though I wish I could.

IMG_6152

In other news, I'm really looking for a funny babe who is very good at making me laugh all the time and who thinks I'm as funny as I am (very funny) and then wants to make jokes all day.
Just in case you were wondering.
