bruises and salads

IMG_6860

IMG_6844

I made a couple of salads for set on Saturday. Yeahhh we've been shooting a little short. Funnntimez but more on that later right now I want to tell you about what I made:

POTATO SALAD
(I had never made potato salad before)

First I cooked the potatoes (7 medium potatoes) for until they were softish but not too soft

while that was going on I put 5 eggs (I secretly think that potato salad should be almost half egg salad, anyone else?) in a pot of cold water and brought it to a boil. Then I took it off the element and let it sit for about 11 minutes in the hot water. Then I dumped out the hot water and soaked them in cold water for awhile longer before I peeled and chopped them all

then I chopped up:
1/2 green pepper
lots of green onions
5 radishes
(you could put in red peppers, that'd be good or celery but I don't like celery also maybe peas? or green beans?)

mixed the potatoes in a bunch of mayonaise first then mixed some (lots of) mayo with a little bit of mustard and some vinegar then I added everything all together with some garlic salt and some pepper.
FUCK YEAH.

(Noodle, I still have your sharpie pen, also by making me call you Noodle here I feel like it lends kind of a nice sense of intimacy to our relationship..uh huhh)

GREEK (rice)PASTA SALAD
(also never made before)

cooked up the rice pasta and cooled it, then mixed it up with
Green peppers
Cucumber (thick sliced)
tomatoes (thick sliced)
black olives
thick crumbled feta

I can't remember if there was anything else...
then I tossed it all together in a greek dressing.
UH HUH.

Don't you feel like craft on set can really make your day? Or break your day?
Since I have the most dietary restrictions I thought it was best I bring a few things and plus I secretly love cooking/baking for people but I live by myself and get involved with babes who don't like anything healthy or good, so I never get to do it...

IMG_6849

Gluten-free flour and cookie mix was on sale at Metro tonight, first time I'd seen it discounted. I've never tried this brand before. I'm excited!
Who wants to come over for a dinner party??? Mmmmmmmmmmmm

IMG_6841
(oh, lordy, my legs are so bad these days. no wonder no one wants to get all up in this candy)

Shit, son, later on I'm going to tell you the recipe for baked macaroni and cheese casserole that is my favourite thing of life and that I made both yesterday (for set again) and today (for me to eat until I felt so sickly full I was unsure of if I could bike to the play or not).

IMG_6851

Yeeeah I went out with my bud, who I will call The Fever (or possibly Feve for short), tonight. We went to see some people we know do David Mamet's Speed the Plow.
The play was good. Solid. It's nice to see old chums/work chums doing what they love and making their own work (that's the only way any of us get anywhere around here)

While I was waiting (I arrived early, which never ever ever happens) I took all these pictures and I am impressed with my camera's macro setting. I wish the zoom weren't broken. I wish someone would buy me the new iphone just as soon as it comes out...

IMG_6853

Feve is the one who wrote and was in the Fringe play that I did a couple of summers ago. She works with me at ACC and the dome and is very funny.
This is a close-up of her eye:
IMG_6862

After the play we went to Cadillac to have a drink and gossip. Told some preeeetty good stories, epic moments in our lives, tales of our own true terrible behaviours.
Now I want to write a billion plays/shorts/stories/sketches based of how dumb we all are sometimes. And about cast parties. Cast parties are always so dramatic, eh? How could they not be?
I would never go back to being 20. Nuhh uh.
Feve has a sort of webbed hand in the middle there:
IMG_6865
She made me take a picture of it.

IMG_6855
My hands have very few lines on the palm. And they are very light and simple. Supposedly this means that I won't have to work very hard in my life. I bet it's because I never work very hard, ever.
IMG_6858

I'm in the middle of a few days off and I thought I would get some stuff done today but instead I hung in the park mostly with Niki and Bee and Noodle and Kaya and then went out forever.
Maybe tomorrow will be the day of getting things done. Also tomorrow planning on planning NXNE (I guess actually deciding if I'm going to go) and posting my picks. In theory!

that's enough, for fuck's sake, internet

I am at the end of my line tonight. I have no idea why I have not shut off the lights and closed my eyes yet.

ZOMBIES ZOMBIES ZOMBIES ZOMBIES!

Went to set today-- shot a zombie short where I had a very small part and was the cutest zombie (oh don't worry I have photos like you would not believe, some video too!) and I had the most fun on set and was mostly charming and befriending people and not nervous/awkward/rude like I get sometimes and not even being too obnoxious and I just love it. I just lovelovelovelovelove it I love going to set. I feel like I should be allowed to go to set every day just based on how much I love it. Why doesn't that sort of rule exist?

Oh, man, guys. Life is so hard sometimes? And the most wonderful, extremely great, hopeful parts are kind of what make it so hard. Because I want those sweet parts all the time.

Also, I'm tired of thinking.
And so, so pleased! And so, so sad! And so, so hopeful! And so, so at the end of my line and need to get off the internet.

what a stupid career idea

Aw, man.
I really want to be an actor. I so badly want to be an actor and get to act and be in things and go to set and learn new skills and develop actual characters and have input and and and and and

I kind of wish I were just in this for the fame, then I could take another avenue, push anything to get fame. But what I really really want and dream of and plan for and expect is to be a working actor. To get to go and work on film sets.
To create and to story-tell.

I feel a pretty big disconnect between who I feel I am and what I look like on film and in pictures. I really don't relate that well to images of me. I know that girl, but I don't really believe it's me.
I feel kind of protective if her more than anything. And a bit judgemental of her. No, mostly protective.
Aw that girl has such a funny gremlin face, aw it's that girl's fat arms again, cute... That girl's high-pitched squeal and bum-chin. I guess I'm familiar to myself and therefore endeared...
Hard to explain. But I guess that's one of the reasons why I'm fine with watching myself and why I am comfortable with my body and looks, because I do not believe it's really me.

You know what else I'd like? I'd like to go to Paris in the fall.
BFF is going to do a semester of school there (luckylucky) and imagine if I could go and visit??
I've never even been out of Canada! Ever!
And I even speak French. Perfect.
I should probably go.
Aaand I should go to England, too. I have relatives over there. My grandparents immigrated from there, it's almost like I have a bit of culture if I think about it.
And I speak English, so, you know.
Makes sense.

I have to make a lot of money starting now, go!

Such, such a busy weekend, I'm a busy bee. Lots of ideas for projects that I want to do. Lots of stress and lots of fun. And now I kind of want to sleep for a few days. Or at least 11 hours...

Also, if you haven't seen A Small Thing and you'd like to see the trailer, it's here: http://www.girlboyproductions.com/trailer.html. In case you were wondering.

on crafting for babies and being crafty with babes...

Do you feel like barfing onto your own face????
Then you should google search some crafts to make for babies and baby showers!

This is the worst thing I've found yet. I don't even have the words for it...

wow. sexy timez.

yes, so I have a sort of baby shower to go to tonight. And I haven't gotten a gift. Maybe owing to how flippin broke I am. Maybe also owing to laziness.
Second college pal to have a little one. I'm hoping there will be lots of babies there because I like them and I like to touch their little hands.

Creeeper.

.
Had a big day yesterday, many social engagements, even worked for a while. It was kind of big deal for a shut-in like me.

Brunch and then coffee with Cpt. at Ella's Uncle (I hadn't been there before, but always walked by it and it is very, very lovely and the woman working was great and I had apple-berry cider which was cheap and delicious. Recommend for sures.)

Then working at Skydome for AC/DC. Wasn't as terrible as the last one (where I cried twice and screamed profanities once) but it was annoying in a few different ways. I need money too badly to even complain though. Wait. No, I'm not.

After work I seriously considered heading home to shut myself in some more, but ended up going out on the town with Sass. Hit up her friend's going away party at some big pub I'd never heard of because I'm too much of a hipster.
It was fun though, had nice girl talk with girls I didn't know. Talked a lot about babes and power-balances and how fun it was in elementary school/high school/camp to have a crush. Crushes at our age are less easy to come by.

There are so many factors that contribute to having the perfect crush. And the biggest one is that the babe should be one who you have to continually see (and hopefully interact with) pretty regularly.
At my age that gets limited mostly to workplaces. And that ends in DISASTERS. Pretty fun-for-awhile disasters though, sometimes.
My problem is that I can't just let crushes be crushes. I am always pushing things and needing to see what I can get... and I always just like to know people. I get excited about the newnesses. Obviously.

This is also probably why so many actors and crew members hook up on sets. IDEAL CRUSH ENVIRONMENT. Especially because there are the different groups and you interact but not really but you can find excuses if necessary... I LOVE CRUSHES.
I really didn't end up having any crushes when I worked on the Manson family movie this summer, but we ladies did tour around the set to ogle the crew and scope babes, and there were definitely crushes being had. And there's something appealing about the crew. And by something I mean SO MANY THINGS. Crew are hot. Admit it. Even Devon Sawa married his make-up artist for Christsakes.

Actually, there was one dude who I thought was kind of dreamy on the crew of that movie... but I don't think I ever even got introduced to him.

Maybe I should go back to college. Just for crushes.

This is maybe also why high-school and college based shows are still very popular with women in their 20s and 30s - we are all just interested in crushes. That initial first spark or interest or attention or energy.

I love it.

In conclusion I bring you one of my all-time favourite quotes from someone I've very much had a crush on
"I thought I wanted to make out with her, but it turned out I just needed to pee."

I kind of want those cats.

The best part about coming home drunk last night was when my friend and I stopped in front of her house to pet the two cats that have been chilling on her porch lately and then this guy comes out of the basement next door carrying his laundry and so we obviously ask him if these are his cats, which they are not.. but the point is: Who does their laundry at 2:30 a.m.?
And was he a babe?

Goddamn my babedar is off. I have no idea.

The other good thing was how I talked to AndrewKeith until 4 a.m. or some nonsense and I don't really remember what we talked about. I can say his full name on here because he always mentions me by name on his diary. So fair's fair.
I like that dude. He's pretty nutso.

Sneaky Dee's late night with my neighbour because I wanted BEER. And nachos. Obviously. It was pretty fun, if you like that sort of thing. We drank too much though. But then you can talk about everything everything.

I still feel a bit like hibernating. But there's no time for that sort of thing. Too much to do.

Can I just tell you about how little I want to go back to Skydome tonight?
It's very very little.

Luckily it's mere days away until my triumphant return to Saskatoon.
I'm going to go to the lake! And hold a baby!

I have to pick up my bike on the way to work. Hopefully it's still where I left it last week. I've felt kind of stranded without it.

I wish I could just stay home all day again today and work on that dress. I really want it to be as beautiful as it is in my head. Hopefully!
I'm going to try and finish all three maxi-dresses before home-time.
The word maxi-dress is annoying. And it makes dudes uncomfortable, I think.

Pretty sure I'm kind of depressed. But for no good reason and it's annoying me. Which doesn't help things.

Whilst preparing for the orgy scene onset last week I declared "If I have to wear these nudie-things then I'm going to be wearing this robe underneath!"

Yeah, I cropped my face out of the picture because it is honestly one of the worst things I've seen.

It kind of blows my mind how I never get to wear make-up for shoots. I mean, shouldn't I get the star treatment at all times?
Oh right, I'm naturally beautiful. I keep forgetting.

8.16.2008

exhausted

I went to sleep at around 1:30 a.m. last night and slept pretty much right through until 2 p.m. this afternoon.
Something tells me that I was tired.

Been onset for the past few days!!! Yes, I know that you know that already. But still!
Super fun party time. Realized it's the first feature set I've been on. And the first set where there was a solid group of 20-somethings to bond with. I kind of wish I hadn't liked everyone so much.. it was really hard to leave yesterday.
Especially knowing that some of them get to hang next week without me. Sigh.

It was awesome working with my friend, which was great considering my slight worry about it. But I think I love her even more after this. Which is great.

And I'm pretty heart-broken to not get to spend mass amounts of time with the rest of the cast anymore. Even the crew were neat-o. Loved especially the hair and make-up and the wardrobe people. And the AD who shared his booze, of course.

I was the first one wrapped yesterday and it was my final day on set and they called me down to the set for a minute and then everyone came out and they said "That's a picture wrap on Meredith" and then everyone clapped and I almost cried. And then everyone was all "we'll miss you" and other gay junk like that just to make me feel sadder and make it harder for me not to cry.
Sigh.
Here's the cast waving good-bye to me

Aw man guys. So ready to be a working actor. All The damn time.

Gotta go for lunch with some peeps. And then go to Value Village maybe!
Because I got my tax return. And want to buy something pretty to wear for when I come home on friday(!!!). So obviously Value Village is the best choice.

8.07.2008

it's only almost midnight

Man, I was so sure that I would get around to posting about one or the other of my cottage vacations today. And I sure did not. Ohhhh well. Soonskies.

The wardrobe team yesterday was so ridiculously cute. I want both those dudes to move in with me. Except the make-up artist was telling us about how one of them, A, makes his boyfriend sleep closer to the door so that when the zombies come then they'll eat him first and give A time to get away!
He calls it his Early Warning System!
Later I was trying to remember what he called it and I asked him and he said "oh,you mean EWS?"
ahahahahha

The make-up artist is very nice too. She let us hang out in her trailer and talk to her while she worked. And let us look through her huge binder of Manson info and pictures. And told us set horror stories and stuff.
Sets that are filled with good people are one of the best things ever.
Makes everything so fun.

I want to go set again! Next week feels far away and I'm jealous of them all having fun without me. Not to mention them making all the bills.

I did alright at the skydome tonight... not comparatively, of course, but still.

Now I have to go to my friend's birthday! But we have little to no friends in common (despite knowing each other for 20 years) so I'm a little hesitant. Except she does tend to surround herself with rattitude.. should be good.
I wish I wasn't weirdly shy/awkward.
Working on it.

8.06.2008

i wish i'd stolen more food from set

Great time on set today!!! Yay funtime sets where I have no real responsibilities or stress and everyone is super nice. And we totally went into overtime and that means they have to give me the dollar dollar bills.

I totally love this one girl the cast. I was exclaiming to my mother about her and I sounded like I was trying to date her. And I am a little bit. I want her to be my friend. I'm going to woo her. She's got the best smile-eyes and I find her really funny but also rewarding to be funny around. Sigh.

Also, it wasn't weird shooting with my friend. Not after we arranged that I would never look her directly in the eyes (I mean, she's the lead, so... it's only fair...)

I'm hoping they put us all up in a motel while we're shooting out of the city next week... then we'll all party down together! Oh fun times!!!

Random meeting up with friends last night brought two of the tallest guys I know into one room (squirrley's) and as they met I thought "they're totally going to end up talking about how tall they are"..
Turns out they've both recently traveled to Shaghai and both experienced a surprisingly amount of people staring, pointing, and full-out yelling at them about how tall they are.
One dude said about how they this specific phrase in Mandarin that means "EXTREME FEET HIGH!!!"
Except he didn't actually say that he said "extremely high!" but I thought he'd said extreme feet high and I thought that was the funniest thing of my entire life.
Immeasurable feet high!
Too many meters tall!
Much too high to be able to even guesstimate!!!

That would be awesome.

This has lead me to engrish.com
and more specifically to this picture there:

Please.

Last night at work I worked with a very lovely girl who is not always the most well-spoken and she informed me that:
"math is not for my brain, my brain is just not made for math. I'm more into liter-er-ature, you know - books?"

Lordy dudes, apparently the Backstreet Boys were at the dome today and I missed them!
I want my picture taken with them! And I would also like to recreate the rap from Get Down for them.
Oh man if I had a video camera I would make a video about how much I love doing that rap and you could all see it.
Buy me a video camera

Bang bang bang
here we come
here we slam
it's the fun factory
with the BSBs
get on your knees
Backstreet Boys
are you with it?
AJ, hit it!!

Come on girls and get down
smack it up, flip it,
move it all around
here it is,
if you want to get hit
this'll put you
at the top of my list,
UH!

1.21.2008

ooo a production still!

This is from the set of the short, Tearwater Tea. They weren't shooting my legs so I kept my cowboy boots on. I'm just like Marlon Brando. Except instead of no-pants, I just keep my boots on. And instead of getting my lines fed to me through an ear-piece, I mostly learn mine.
Same thing though.
