Where's the love? it's not enough! makes the world go round and round

Guys remember when we all used to like Hanson so much?? REMEMBER?
I so into that record, I'll admit. Not MmmBop, I have more class than that, but the ones like Lucy and I Will Come To You the ones that were so fun to sing along to.
I was mostly into Jonathan Taylor Thomas (obvi) but I had a side-interest in Taylor Hanson. Yeah, I taped them when they were on Oprah.

It's kind of weird how I got so ridiculously into pop culture and celebrities, my mum hates all that kind of shit. I've always had a soft spot for crushes and cute boys though. An interest I've carefully cultivated for many years and has served me quite well....

ANYWAY:

Thinking 'Bout Somethin'

HANSON | MySpace Music Videos

Yeah, this is pretty fun. No, it is, though.
Also, it has Weird Al in it, in case that was more your bag.

doppelganger week on facebook

So on Facebook (as you may have noticed) everyone seems to be changing their picture to a picture of the celebrity that they most resemble. This is kind of entertaining mostly when it is not true at all. Or when it is so true.

Anyway, I have kind of a funny little elf face that doesn't reallllly look like anyone, so instead of changing my fb picture to one of a celebrity, I will give you this list of people who I've been told I resemble but I don't really but I kind of wish I did (actually, realistically, I don't... who wants to be an actor who looks just like another actor, ya know?)

Carey Mulligan:
(okay so no one has actually said that I look like her, I'm making this one up because I love her.)

Ellen Page:
(I get this kind of frequently I guess, but I don't think I actually look like her, I just have a similar type of "hit")

Rachel MacAdams:
(ahaha once my agent asked me what sort of look I thought I had or whose career I liked and wanted to be like... I said maybe Rachel McAdams and he was like "but she's very beautiful...."   classic.)

Helena Bonham Carter
(I love her a bit, she has a much pointier face than I do)

Alexis Bledel
(she is not a good actor. no question. but I find her very visually appealing. very. anyone else?)

Whoaa this took way longer than it should have. I did get distracted looking at numerous other things on the internet... but still.

Also, I kind of look like my bff. Okay, not really,

But one time one of her friends told her that the girl from the gum commerical (that's me) reminded her or her... Point Proven.

in the news

Aw, man, so ridiculous!

From an article in the Onion:

From the city of Toronto's Summer FUN guide:

Woowwwww. Seriously amazing.

"Gawker pointed this out
also Torontoist had a bit on it.

I guess it's a little better that it is a stock photo that got changed, rather than a family cast specifically for the cover shoot or a family that really has FUN in Toronto.

And couldn't they have photoshopped it just a bit better? At all? Really?

In other world news, John Travolta has now acknowledged that his son, Jett (who died from a seizure in early January), was Autistic.
This is news because it is against Travolta's Scientology views to admit that psychological conditions like Autism are real and not just made up in the head.
Quite honestly, Scientology scares the beejezes out of me and I do not like the sounds of it at all. (Also, Scientology: Give back Beck!)
I find this whole story quite, quite sad. Travolta has been absent from promoting his new feature because he's still quite upset by Jett's death.
How hard! How terribly, terribly hard!
Imagine if Travolta feels somewhat responsible for his son's death? Imagine being an Autistic kid whose parents refused to treat it properly?
Scientology seems to be all about pretending things. Trying to use mind-over-matter to change things.
Any way you look at it, it's pretty sad.

I think he'd like to party?

I keep forgetting to tell you, Cheespie and I saw Michael Cera on Queen street on Saturday and we passed by him and he looked soooo cute I don't even care that his bit has kind of jumped the shark no I don't I still think he looks so nice and he looked very skinny and sweet and shy-ish and he looked at us and I wanted to talk to him soooo bad and Cheespie was having none of that. And I was all "we could just bring him with us to the show!" and she was all "no we can't" and I was all "let's kidnap him!" and she was all "no let's not" ugh what a party pooper. I was going to tell him that I auditioned for that movie he's filming right now but I didn't get it because I'm obviously not very good but I do kind of know one of his Superbad friends and so therefore he and I can be BFFs if he wants to.
Yeah okay Cheespie was right to let me nowhere near him.

sigh.

Imagine if that had been JTT??
I'm pretty sure that ALL HELL WOULD HAVE BROKEN LOOSE.

p.s. - those Year One posters look so remarkably terrible I cringe thinking about it. anyone with me?

CELEBRITY COUPLES I AM JEALOUS OF

Amy Poehler and Will Arnett (and their little baby, Archie!)

Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes (love Kate Winslet. Watched her biographer the other day and loved her even more. Love Hideous Kinky, you should watch it. It is not anything like the title implies.)

Michelle Williams and Spike Jonze (was jealous of her relationship with Heath as well, also she is so pretty and amazing and I love her. JFYI. Want to see Wild Things!)

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton (if I got reeeal skinny and weirder maybe I would look like her at least)

Tina Fey and Jeff Richmond (composer on SNL) (jealous of Tina Fey on so many levels)

Maya Rudolph and Paul Thomas Anderson (I didn't even know about this one until recently! And I love her last name..)

I think a lot about movies and theatre and I never go to see them. I should start doing that more often.

Oh, I did go to see Adventureland with Carlos in Saskatoon. It was kind of weird. Charming and nice and stuff, but also awkward (not purposefully awkward, more like I could see the script or something while I was watching it).
It had an obscene amount of drinking and driving in it. And a bit where there was a consequence to that... but not enough.
I'm pretty anti-drinking and driving. In case you were wondering.

Okay I need to get my life in gear and stop dicking around (literally).

You know what's annoying?
When people ask how your career is going.
I bet people don't do this to people who aren't in the arts. It's fucking obnoxious.
I've taken to sticking my tongue out, giving thumbs down, and saying "my career is in the shitter!"
This works because it dissuades (omg hard to spell) people from asking much further.
But it's not true. My career is coming along -- slowly.
And I wonder if I by saying this all the time I am convincing myself (and the universal energies and fates [punch me in the head/give me a copy of The Secret]) that my career is pointless and done...

HMMMMM.

Oh yeah, p.s. - I'm doing a short play on May 23rd as part of the Over-the-Top Festival.

And I'm getting into a positive outlook. STARTING NOW.

excuses to post pictures of hunks

Men's TV hair really doesn't exist in real life, hey?

I kind of wish it did. I find it very funny and pleasing.

And also a bit sexy. But I guess I would never be able to take people seriously with that hair. Should still try it though. I'm going to try and convince the Cpt. that this is his next hair move. Or maybe Tanner... yeah... we'll see!

(I don't really find this dude attractive. But there is something about his hair, that's for sure.)

I don't know why I'm including this picture of Beck but I feel like he changed my life. And he has pretty great hair.

I bought Oldelay from Columbia House (man, we were members of that "club" for way too long) in grade nine (I believe), mostly because I thought he was so cute. (Also in that shipment I bought Savage Garden and Backstreet Boys.)
I feel like it was the first good music I actually appreciated.
Aw Beck. Too bad you're a Scientologiest and you are married and have babies.
Sighs x 100.

"from what I gather, she has brunch 3 times a day"

Forgot to tell you, the other day miss belle woods and I saw the Ashmore Twins at Aunties and Uncles except Belle was so funny because she was like
"there's a babe - ah, man there's TWO OF HIM!!!!"

And also, we mostly recognized them because of this made-for-TV movie one of them did with most of our friends called Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story. We considered going over there and identifying them only from that show
Restrained ourselves!
Congratulations to us!

It turns out the twin from Prom Queen is also the twin from the Smallville episodes in which JTT also starred.

Isn't it kind of funny how everything comes back to JTT?
A little too often for coincidences, I would say.

Looks like fate has its hands all up in my candy.

gingersnaps and fancy china

On a related note, I officially finished all the candy and gingersnaps my mum send in a Valentines carepackage for me.
Sigh.
The chocolate were especially cute, wrapped in foil like ladybugs. Awww.
Included in the package was a whole bunch of fancy china (one of which is seen above), different sorts of dishes, same pattern. So so pretty! And goes so well with another gold and blue plate I have (stolen from Mum as well).
I want to collect enough of this antique(?) fancy china in blue and white and gold, the British variety, to make up an entire set.
Because I'll probably be rich soon with a fancy house and need to do some fancy entertaining but a whole regular set, that just doesn't seem quite like me....

Every time I look at the kittens they seem to have gotten bigger. Well, especially Thing 3, that one is especially healthy...

TWO THINGS

for you before I go to sleep at the keys

NUMBER ONE:
A dude I had a vague crush on when he was on that Saskatchewan/APTN show, Renegadepress.com, is now working on a big Disney movie, according to Perez (aka my best friend) and also according to Perez, he was working for awhile as a go-go dancer in a club in Vegas!
How Wild!
Aw man, the internet, ruining everyone's life...

NUMBER TWO:
Tomorrow may just bring a very special Valentines Day Treat to my house...
I'm very hopeful!

totally open (party) season

I don't know why I'm having issues sitting down and writing this entry.
A lot to say but I'm not making sentences properly today.

cheers to christmas cheer!
The light here really captures the peach fuzz on my chin. now I can look at nothing else.

not want to wear bowtie
omg handsome devil
My friend (who will now be nicked Mrs. because she is most likely to become a housewife) wrestled her cat, Jonathan, into a bowtie for the party on Friday. He was unimpressed. But the best was how people walking by would be like "Looking sharp, Jonathan".
Jonathan is the third best Toronto after my first love, Touro, and current fling, Rudyard Kitling.
jonathan tip-top taylor thomas chirovsky

Mrs. curled her hair for the party and proclaimed her name to be DIANA and posed around a bunch. I found this overly funny.
I just feel like a "Diana"...
diana!

be quiet diana!
Mrs. and her mister are two of the funniest when drinking they both are belligerent and loud. And rude and it's kind of awesome.

I like when I get to realizing that people I liked a bit I actually like a whole lot and they are even better then I'd initially noticed.

OH yeah my birthday party was last night and some people came over and we ate (guacamole and vegges and cheese and bread and cookies and olives) and talked and had way too much sangria (thanks two-liter bottle of Dragani!). Then we all felt tired, Mrs. even fell asleep on the couch, but still got up and headed down to Dakota where we waited in line forever and a half with a bunch more people who met us there. No it wasn't that bad and luckily the door friend recognizes me way too quickly now and got some of the people in.
Anyway we all got in eventually and everyone had fun I think and talked to each other or not and I didn't care. I drank and danced a bit and was very pleased at how many great people I know and how they came to party down because they are in love with me and I with them.
I took not a single picture. I don't know why, I just wasn't particularly feeling it. Wanted to not have to worry about a camera.

And then as I was leaving someone stopped me and said "Meredith?" and I said "yes?" because I didn't recognize him but then it turned out to be Bill Priddle and I laughed because I hadn't been the creeper for once. I was so excited though! And too drunk to remember what kind of fool I made of myself. Yikes.
But he did say he's playing the Dakota soon (possibly next Sunday?) and I won't be here so you should go for me! Aw he's so good.

Oookay I have done exactly nothing to get ready for how I'm leaving at like 4 in the morning to get to Saskatoon by lunch time... And I have to work tonight! So better do something. Anything, really.

between hope and dispair

Well. I did it. I finally finished A Fine Balance and it is a seriously lovely book and beautiful and everything that you'd expect. Except it is also just so horrendously depressing. The 'fine balance' part refers to finding a balance between hope and despair.. but I'm not sure the book actually find that balance. It did not make me feel at all hopeful, really.

Unfortunately I read three online gossip blogs every day. All this time I could be devoting to my creative pursuits or jerking off or something. But I do. I can't stop it.
But here are some thoughts on some hot celebrity topics:

#1 - Nicole Kidman did not actually birth her baby. I am 100% convinced of this. For sure she wore a bad prosthetic at points during the farce, but she did not actually carry that child. The weird part is that she insisted on pretending that she was. Why pretend? Because Katie Holmes had one? Because you want to out-crazy your ex-husband? Impossible.
She is used to shams because of being contractually married to Cruise and pretending that he was
a) straight
and
b) not insane
Nicole 2 weeks after "giving birth" to her new daughter

#2 - Katie Holmes. Something about Katie Holmes makes me want to weep. I bet she was the nicest kid ever. I didn't even like her on Dawson's Creek, and I don't think she's a particularly good actor, but there's something nice about her.
Well, there used to be. Now she looks drained and strange. Probably terrified that she signed her life away to play house with Cruise. But who could say no to that sort of offer? I can seriously say that if I were offered a million dollars and a chance to have kids and a career and everything that I want in exchange for being a front, I would take it.
I can't ever move to Hollywood because I would end up addicted to drugs and playing beard for a gay superstar. For certain.

#3 - Michelle Williams is lovely. She is beautiful and so great in Brokeback Mountain and in that movie I watched once that I still consider a favourite, Me Without You.
When I saw Williams on Oprah with Heath Ledger and their baby I was the most jealous green-eyed monster for about a week. What a life! I wanted to be her so, so ridiculously bad. At one point Ledger turned to his young family and said "I fall deeper in love with both my girls every day"
My heart is broken for her and this weekend must be the toughest. I wonder what she'll end up doing. I wonder if she has any desire for any more fame after all of this.

#4 - Heath Ledger is amazing as Joker. There is no denying that. I am not in the camp of "he just had to act crazy". Nope. He genuinely made me feel bad inside (probably due, in part, to being dead now) with that character. Unsettled and shook.
But I can't imagine having to play a character like that. Especially if you took the character as seriously as Ledger seemed to. I can't help but wonder if this character didn't play a part in his death. And no character is worth this.
Holy over-analyzation, I know.

#5 - Lindsay Lohan is in a lesbian relationship. And that's okay. Everyone calm the eff down. And why is Perez Hilton constantly constantly making fun of her and her girlfriend, Sam Ronson? Perez is gay, and yet he's the meanest about Ronson's looks/persona/style of any of the bloggers. Constantly attacking both of them.. when it doesn't really matter.
I can see how Ronson is attractive. She reminds me of a certain lesbian DJ we know who virtually every (straight) girl I know has a crush on. Because she's damn cool.

The stories that come out of Hollywood are nearly as depressing as A Fine Balance. And I don't think I'm particularly shallow to care about it, just interested in people. And interested in how people react to fame and money.
What a tough game.

I am totally going to go read some teen fiction right now and I'm hoping for happy endings.

6.16.2008

fuck you leave some comments already

95 people who've viewed my blog today I hate you

yikes
I think is what my mum meant when she said I look drunk.
(I wasn't.)

Did you know that I bought some hummus today and it was mouldy?
Gross.

I had a four hour nap this afternoon so there
Good thing because I was pretty much at the end of my rope.
At rehearsal today in the park I almost cried when I suggested something that was shot down. For no reason. it doesn't even matter.
I'm just stressed and tired.

And then I got a sunburn.

OMG I WANT TO TALK ABOUT PERSONAL BUSINESS ALL OVER THIS BLOG SO BADLY LIKE I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU TOO MANY FUNNY STORIES

yike meredith

Lil' Italy fest got rained out so I got sent home from the chill!!! We were all beyond excited.
I almost fell asleep but then decided to go out instead. (p-a-t-t)

Went to Rancho Relaxo for one last NXNE show. Didn't really pay attention to the musics, mostly just chatted around. Pretty fun though, Grand Analog played again and I still like them all a lot.
I want a new album from them!

Went with them all down to the Gibson guitars MMVA after-party. We got there and it was all done pretty much (no door security at all) but so we ate some O'Henry's and drank some free beers.
No wonder all celebrities are alcoholics because they always get free drinks, and if I ever end up in some position of success I'm going to be fucked because my motto is "free things are not for refusing".
Child Of Poverty

I got recognized as being off tv by this girl who says her 17-year-old brother is in love with me. haha! She asked if we could have a picture taken with me. Of course! Too funny!
"So do you want to do movies, too?"
"Yes, DO YOU KNOW OF ANY??"

Remarking on how the party was over I was heard to say "man even Ryan Malcolm's been and gone" (Canadian Idol's first winner, who had been at the party the night before, as was other winner Kalen Porter) as a joke
but THEN it turned out he was actually there, still partying. Too funny.

and THEN
on our way out we saw Ryan Malcolm peeing at the side of the building
us: We see you!
rm: no you don't
us: we see you peeing!
rm: do you like what you see?
us: no...
rm: my name is Kalen Porter!

Swear to God.
Best story of the weekend.

NOTE: Do not bring five O'Henrys home with you because you will not be able to stop eating them and they have 17 grams of fat!

I wish I had gone out with that Dollface to the Revolver party because Brody Jenner (douche) requested to meet her and that sounds funny.

I'd want to meet her too for surez.
