the most used word on our porch is "babe"

I have a blog still?

Oh, cool, I just wasted two hours! Neat!

I had cornpops for breakfast and now it's definitely time for cookies and tea. Don't worry I'm going to make a snack platter later that will be very healthy. or medium healthy. We'll see.

my hairs have calmed down in colour, I know you were worried about it. It's even lighter now.

THINGS OUR HOUSEHOLD CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH OF:
1. eggs
2. almond milk
3. babes
4. bananas
5. smoothies

Nah, I haven't been babin' around too bad or nothing. Just eating bananas and yelling a lot.
And discussing things rationally with other humans like grown-ups.
Kind of fun.

One babe said "I'm getting tired of this knitting circle type business, where everything gets discussed and picked over"
and I said, "that's because you do things you're not proud of"
which was only half true, probably.
some people are not business-discussers.
I am, though. Straight up. By relating my situations to my best pals, I get a way better sense of how I actually feel about it. I get a better sense of what's a normal reaction,

Firehorse just got back from his trip to Brazil (he was shooting something but let's not pretend it wasn't somewhat of a vacation). He brought us flip-flops!

Pretty nice.

Okay, yeah most of these photos are from the island. Onesie and I went last week together and it was so hot in the city and then we got out there and it got quite, quite chilly.
We brought so much food it was unreal (lives revolve around food) and we ate the shit out of it. So delicious.

Onesie is easy to be with. I know I've said that before, but it is very true.

We made okay friends with a goose and two ducks. A duck couple. The man duck let the lady duck eat most of the food. Guess she needed it more. They were totally cool.
Good thing Violet wasn't there, she would have said "ew, sick".
They came so close!

My room is like a little haven. It's really quite quiet in here. I mean, I can here them talking and laughing in the living room a bit, but it feels completely separate.

I bought these frames with the green paper and watercolour paper already in them and so I drew some herbs. I like it!
this is the kind of thing I like to do. To get to show off. I like making things around the house and then people come by and say "oh wow, did you make this? it's lovely."
alllll for the praise. But then, what else is there?

I made my mum's specialty macaroni and cheese casserole last night for dinner but most of my (billion) roommates were out and so I made Carla Ghee come over and we had wine and dinner by candlelight on the deck with Onesie and listened to the Amelie soundtrack and Carla Ghee said "this is what I dreamed my life would be like".
Me too.
(I promise you it wasn't burnt like it looks really.)
Later on some nice young men came over and I made them eat it too! I love when you offer guests a snack and they take it! Also, one of the nice young men spent a long time admiring my kitchen with me. HA! trying to win my friendship, I see!

Also, earlier yesterday after grocery shopping our heads off, Onesie and I (mostly Onesie, as I was busy freezing strawberries and making refrigerator pickles) made the most insanely amazing snack platter ever.

Honestly, Onesie and I would make the best wives. If only we could narrow focus if you know what I'm saying.

Firehorse just took these photos with his fancy camera and it's a cruel reminder of how my phone really doesn't do things justice... What a fucking lovely house, though.
Goddamn, I need to update more because this is all over the place balls bananas I have too much to say. Plus lots of other stuff keeps happening and I have people over every day and I have my first improv show on Wednesday (WTF!?)

I have a few days off in a row right now but it already feels busy with improv stuff and socializing stuff and I'm planning on going to the cottage with my new roommate this weekend....
aiaiaiaaiaiaiii.

tattoo o'clock

I called my mum up today to tell her I got a tattoo because that seems like something pertinent you tell your mother about and she sort of laughed at me. How classic!

When I got my lip pierced the summer I was 16 (before I even kissed anyone, really) my mum had to come with me and she was a bit annoyed with the whole idea and she said "I made you perfect, I don't know why you have to go messing around with it".
kind of true.
But also, I got a picture of a snowflake I drew tattooed on my wrist today!

so... that's cool.
I'm pretty pleased with it!
It's nice that it's something I've thought about for awhile and something I think really suits me and is 100% particular to me.

exciting!

last night I was idly talking about getting said tattoo as I am wont to do because in the past I talked a lot about doing stuff that I never actually got around to doing. And I said to Onesie, let's go tomorrow!
And I got home and I saw my new roommate (who just arrived on Friday from Germany and who doesn't have a nickname yet because I haven't discussed it with her yet and she's super sweet) and I mentioned to her about the tattoo and she was like "I really wanted to have roommate time tomorrow" so we agreed we should all go and get me a tattoo!

I drew it this morning. I combined two of our favourites that I'd drawn in the past. I'm pretty into it. (thankgod)
and it was super lovely to be out with my two beautiful roommates doing something... I don't know. doing something I'd never done before. It was neat.

this morning Onesie made us breakfast. Have you ever tried living with a chef? A chef who is sensitive of your dietary restrictions? I'd recommend it!!

I have roommates! How crazy is that? I have roommates and a tattoo now. When people ask me what's new I have something to say.

Oh yeah, also, I got into the Second City conservatory training program and I had my first class tonight and I'm super excited! I'm getting back into improv! What a treat!
I did improv a few years ago at Bad Dog and did a couple of shows and stuff and I liked it but you have to be kind of pushy about getting what you want and I've always lacked confidence about pretty much everything (you may not believe this because I am bossy and loud and rude and a know-it-all, but it's true).
so now I'm getting back into it. with new confidence. and a desire to really get great at it.
and I'm in a class with actually talented people. Not to be an asshole here, but... working with talented people is such a treat! So fucking fun. Not having to worry about them and looking forward to seeing what they're bringing and who they'll be and the jokes that'll happen.... fucking fucking fun. Ya know?

I'm going to be so funny!

Actually, I didn't even do that good of a job tonight. I was a bit stilted and in my head and still unused to being back at it. But it was still fun! and I do feel like I have a billion potential in my insides.

Aaaaand then Onesie made me dinner.
What is with this woman?
Honestly, she seems to legitimately like me. And care about me.
How did I end up with an insta-bff for a roommate? Remember how nervous I was?
Last night Onesie told me she was really proud to be out with me. What a lovely thing to say.

chive flower on the top!
We ate the shit out of this (ever had sea asparagus? so good!) and watched Soap.
I'm not saying I'm over the super-sadness that sort of crept through me all last week, but I am saying that, yeah, my life is fucking sweet.

I've taken a gatrillion photos these past few days. but I never turn on the computer. so these are only a few. So many good ones en route though.

these last few are from the island yesterday. What a sweet little vacation spot that little oasis is.
I have several more photos. Obviously. then you'll be extra jealous.

I really, really like the plane in this one.

goodgod I'm tired. And I finally have to go to work tomorrow. After so many days off.

I'm in the market for another job, jfyi (might as well change everything at once), so if you know of anything I may like.... let me know!

we look the same forever

chala in a vest
here are some pictures I took of Prune a few years ago. On film, even.
I used to be a pretty good photographer. Until digital came into my life.

chala in the doorway
Prune-earnest-face is one of my favourite things.

I did not take any photos at dot last night, which is a bit too bad since one dude had a broken nose real bad, I should have documented it better.
Fisher said "you said I was a bit of a baby!" and I laughed.

Here are pictures Prune took of me on that same day:
on chala's porch
Whoa, highlights, hey?
Five years ago, and we still look pretty much the same. Haa, man, we look the same as grade 3, who are we kidding?
in chala's back doorway

Solidgold hang times with Prune. Pretty much as always. Sure, Prune irritates me just as much as anyone else, but I know her. I know her probably better than I know anyone. I don't have to explain anything to her or give her the backstory, she was there for most of it. And we also have similar approaches to communicating (mostly).

Island this summer:

(Remember the summertime? Not to go on about this, but MAN am I excited for this summer.)

anyway. yes, we hung out at dot and in true dot fashion we ran into another woman we've been meaning to make plans with. How totally classic.

All I've been listening to is the new Timber Timbre album. I just love this guy, guys.
Again, you can stream it here.
Fisher says it's not as good as the last one. And maybe not but it is surely still delicious and you can listen to them back-to-back if you like I'm alright with that for sure.

I've done a bit of cleaning lately, big sorting and cleaning out and tossing shit.
Diabetes foundation did a pick-up today and I left them 4 garbage bags full of stuff. Amazing. And that wasn't even all the clothes because I saved a bag to take for swapping. (clothing swaps are my life.)
Threw out so many shoes! Fuck you, shoes!
I still have 3 pairs of small brown boots. It's actually insane the amount of boots I need.
Boots boots boots boots.

Hey tomorrow is the 7 year anniversary of me living on my own. WHOA. Also 7 years in this apartment. Whoaly.

Prune brought me sage to burn in the corners of this place the first night we came here and a fuse had blown and there was no light. I didn't even have a bed when I first came here. I did have a lot of CDs, though. Ha, priorities.

kitchen shelves
Haa, my kitchen shelves still look like this basically. And this is from 5 years ago. I don't care. I still like it.

Plus it looks like I'm moving out in a couple of months here. PANIC. No, I used to have multiple panic dreams about losing this apartment but lately I feel a bit tired of this place and I have multiple dreams of finding other rooms and spaces I'd never realized were there.
Several dreams of rooftop gardens and several dreams of finding a whole other room which can just be my closet (haaaa imagine having a whole room devoted to clothes/accessories? yikes).

rooftop
Before I had an AC unit in the back window I used to climb out onto the roof more. This is the view from outside.
Still love this place. Hopefully will sublet it for a few years, or hopefully someone I know rents it and then if they ever leave maybe I'd want it back.

These are today.
I get to work the Korn concert tonight. Where is the backward R key?

Then Jays home opener tomorrow and I'll be back in the green. Right? Lord, I hope so.
