road trip time has come again!

Made best friends with this girl, Hal Johnson, on the way up to the cottage on Sunday -- we drank bison grass vodka mixed with apple juice in our Harvey's cups in the backseat of the car while the other two lovely ladies were responsible and in charge of getting us to our destination.

That drink is weirdly great and tastes just like apple pie.

Happy to be heading back up to the cottage bright and early tomorrow morning! Back Tuesday to work the Yankees vs Blue Jays games, lots of swimming and sleeping and hammocking between then and now!

said I was your catalyst, I was your gun

For the first time since Elliott Smith died I'm back listening to all his music and enjoying it. I don't mean to sound melodramatic (even though that's what I'm best at), I mean there's enough time passed that I can just love the songs again and not be sort of crushed by the ridiculousness of the loss of him.

Of course this is all also tied in to how I feel about Toad, and about his schizophrenia and talent and his quiet guitar playing while I curled beside him and how hard I loved him.
I still have a couple of tapes that Toad made for me - recordings of his songs, I can't really listen to them again yet. Maybe at some point? I hope. Hell, I still hope that Toad will get better and make me more tapes!

Toad never listened to Elliott Smith, I tried to make him because I thought he'd like it, but he never got around to it (that I know of, maybe he has now). It's funny though because Elliott Smith's song Christian Brothers is so similar to one Toad used to play for me all the time. Funny, that.

Oh, right, I wasn't feeling sad. My mistake.

got a broken heart and your name on my cast

oh hello city, thanks for being so humid! what a great welcome-home gift!

Awesome cottage time, extra sweet because I'm going back up there this weekend so right now I'm just on a vacation from the cottage. Nice.

home

Also, I've been on a pretty big bender the past few days (that's what cottages are about I guess?) and so I'm on a break from that.
Hmm. It turns out that cottages are not good for exercising at, but they are good for eating only tonnes and tonnes of junk food! Hurray!!!!!!! Fuck.

I did have some pretty fun swim times -- the first night we arrived at the cottage we all went skinny-dipping, except me. I've never skinny-dipped. Is that weird? I didn't see the point in skinny-dipping since I had been wearing my bathingsuit all gd day in anticipation of swim times.
Anyway, yeah, swim times, not as much as I should've, but enough. It wasn't as hot as it could have been, but we had some neat weather with some showers and some sun and some thunder and lightning.

Photos coming soon, I'm busy right now.

delicious
Okay fine, another couple from last year I guess.

Hey, good news though! I totally got a whole lot of writing/editing done yesterday afternoon/evening. I did not expect that to happen but it turns out being over-socialized and away from the internet is a winning combination!
Not blog-writing but actual creative writing. Writing that I need to be doing about a billion times more work on.
I can't believe how helpful not having the internet was while working on the computer. Even just in the span of writing this entry (about 15 minutes) I have gone to other tabs to check Facebook/gmail/google reader/etc/etc about 7 times. No exaggerating. I even went through one of my friend's entire Facebook profile pictures album (looking good, Carlos, very pretty freckles and I'm liking your natural hair colour -- I'm thinking of getting back to mine as well.. hmmm). It's so easy to waste hours and hours and hours on here. And actually do absolutely nothing. Need to stop.

almost like saskatchewan
(I love barns that you can see through. no really.)

Do you have any blogs you read that are infuriatingly boring/obnoxious but you just can't stop reading them? Maybe you get some perverse pleasure by reading such drivel? (this blog doesn't count, too bad.)

Holy hell I wish I were a more positive person, I wish I were nicer. I wish I were a baller I wish I had a girl I would call'er.

Okay back to the grind. I'm trying for two productive writing days in a row but who knows if that'll happen. My head hurts. I may or may not hit up a dance party where I will not drink but also kind of doubt it. Might go for a run? Hahaahahahahhhhaaaaa I HATE RUNNING FOR THE SAKE OF RUNNING.

Hey here's an article about Can you get fit in six minutes a week?" Ummmm that's a time frame I could get used to. Unfortunately I'm pretty anti-effort. Unless it's dance-effort. I guess I could go nuts on the dance floor for 30 seconds of time? The rest and groove out for four minutes and then go flipping nuts again? I feel like there'd be no way to not look insane doing this. But still!
It's really really hard to give an all-out effort as well. I tried this a bit in the water at the lake when I was by myself and
a) I believe that it could work
b) I was feeling way too lazy/hunnnng over/wheat coma to do it properly
c) It made me feel insane/worried that I looked insane (did)
d) I'm still interested in this theory of getting fit. If I did it every day would I become an uber-athlete? I bet!
Read the article. Found it through pageslap.wordpress.com -- pretty great blog also.

I'm a ready reddy

GUYSES GUESS WHAT RIGHT NOW IS???

COTTAGE TIME!

I for sure still haven't posted all the photos from last year's cottage excitement retreat weekend but whatevs, here are a couple getting me even more psyched up (if that's possible not sure maybe)

oh yeah I'm also struuuunnnng out on caffeine just got done work haven't had coffee in a few days had the grossest biggest strongest coffee I took a big swig near the bottom and got a grill full of coffee grounds!!!

I've got the shakes should I have a relax-beer while I'm packing? I guess so!

view from the bedroom window:
my cottage view

I'm going to have a bath in this again FOR SURE
bath I had
(oh yeah the hot water heater at my house is broken! I'm glad I'm going on vacation anyway)
I'm going to sit on this dock and I'm also going to jump into the lake so hard can't even explain.
dockers
sexadactyl
(Haha: "I checked your blog the other day to see if there were still a lot of pictures of your boobs. There were.")
I've been informed (again) that I need to hit the gym. OF COURSE I DO OBVIOUSLY. No, yes, I do need to. But luckily for the next few days the lake is going to be my gym. Only about one billion times more fun. (Why do I have to hate the gym so damn hard?)
swim time!!
If you think that I wouldn't be already wearing my bathing suit you would be so wrong.

Ha, Dollface's mother apparently has reminded Dollface about one billion times to take me to the cottage because I've been whining on about it so much on this blog!
Don't worry Mrs. Dollface, the time has finally come!!
this cottage was way bigger than my mum's house

I'm back Wednesday most likely so hopefully I'll get back into blogging properly by then? Hopefully? Yes!

Mid-Week Friendship Retreat Weekend Round-Up Part One

Okay okay yeah, so, Deck and I drove out last Monday and met up with Cpt. Heh and Miss Lindeman and our friend um we'll call her.... Quail. Yes, that's it, Quail! Perfect. At Lindeman's parents' house which is sort of near some towns but not even really, it's past the Superburger. Apparently if you're from around there you'll know where the Superburger is. I am not from around there.
IMG_2152
We were all wearing plaid! Obviously! Hipster party! Except Quail, that's why she was in charge of taking that picture.
IMG_2154
Look at how much fun they're having already!

When we got there the Lindemans had made us some lunch and it was fresh biscuits and gazpacho and then there was this wonderful crisp that we ate outside on the lawn:
IMG_2157
Omgs. Yes. I love crisps. Not to point out the obvious or anything, but I think I might even like crisps better than the average person does. I would bet.

Went for a walk in the Lindemans' back forest and fields.

Cpt. Heh decided to try and climb trees.
IMG_2176
He got bark in his eyes. "Not in my laser eyes!" he screamed!
IMG_2177
Kind of a sweet dismount though.
Then he got a bug bite
IMG_2179
to which he over-reacted.
IMG_2181
The men discussed ways to beat off enemies. Mostly they wanted to use sticks.
IMG_2180
We saw people coming down the path (in the back woods in the middle of nowhere, not even in a town or anything ) and it turned out to be a dude from Toronto who we all knew. Pretty wild. Proving once again that the world is very very small.
Good thing the boys didn't attack them with their sticks.

We found tiny frogs!
IMG_2185
And I touched it!
IMG_2182
It was very cute. And small. And hoppy.
We saw bigger frogs too:
IMG_2160
IMG_2163
Also awesome. I think we saw another kind too in the grass, but it hopped off very quickly.

Cpt. stopped to go pee
IMG_2189
We all cheered him on, then lay around in it!

Big sighs.

IMG_2209
Came back to the house and had cookies (that Niki and I [mostly Niki] made) and beer with Lindeman's parents.
IMG_2208
IMG_2210
Luckily Quail had put on her plaid by that point! Relief!
I used my prairie skillz and blew on some grass to make loud noises. Obnoxious!

Okay that's enough for today I think. It was super fun though, in case you were wondering. I think I had a smug little smile pretty much the entire time. I would.

.

Work was so brutal last night, we were overstaffed and I was working in the outfield (aka middle of nowhere). Made no money, pretty annoying.
I'm working at the soccer pitch instead tonight. It has never been nice when I'm working outside over there, so I fully expect it to rain today. Wonderful. Hopefully it's a bit fun, at least. Sometimes it is. Could be. Fingers crossed.

I'm thinking I'm going to do my passport application very soon.
yes, that's right, I don't have a passport. Why would I have a passport, I've never even crossed the border!
But I would like to go to Paris in the fall! And while I'm Europe it seems like I should visit fam in England? And I'd like to take a train somewhere.
I really want an atlas! Anyone? Gifties?

Need to book something. I am ready to do so, though. So any day now.

Time to go lie around for awhile before work.

it looks slippery out

I am bored of the way I look! I'm bored of my hairdo! My life is so hard!

I kind of want to get dark brown hair or maybe dark blonde hair and get rid of my bangs and have a deep side part or something. and more of blunt cut.

I wish I looked like Emma Watson. I like this hairdo:

I can't believe how long I've been a redhead. How boring. I want to book a movie where I have to dye my hair and they have to pay for it and I get an awesome stylist who'll figure out a way for my hair not to look so goddamned thin!

Oh, yeah, also I want to stop dying my hair. It takes too much damn effort and time and worry. But it's hard to grow it out now I've been dying it for so long. Hmmm. Maybe I will start using only semi-permanents to cover it up until I can find out what my natural hair colour is and then dye the rest of it to match?

WOW MY LIFE IS SO EXCITING BET YOU'RE GLAD THAT YOU'VE GOT THIS IN YOUR GOOGLE READER, BETTER STAR IT AND SHARE IT SO THAT ALL YOUR CONTACTS CAN SEE WHAT PITHY SHIT YOU READ.

IMG_1880
These pictures make it look like I have really nice teeth. They're alright. I need to get some cosmetic work done on them though. I don't want them all filled out I want them to still look like real teeth.

tip: don't drink a giant coffee then try to do your nails steady-handedly.
tip: do your hair before your nails.

This is the summer of Trinity Bellwoods been hanging out in the park almost every day and days where I don't (like today) seem off somehow. I love it there! I love that all my friends live right on the edges of it so it's sort of like their front yard.

IMG_1892
IMG_1897

I'm making friends with people I've known peripherally for so long because we all hang in the park all day.

People do this a lot in Bellwoods:
IMG_1902
I don't know why!

IMG_1905

IMG_1906

IMG_1909

Sometimes we spy on people having picnics and stuff.
IMG_1917
Romantical.
IMG_1914

It feel like summer is just starting but in fact it is half-way done. All my friends are unemployed/underemployed these days and that means we can hang out whenever forever. Summer is for socializing.
But I need to stay home more often. Soon.

IMG_1883

Awwww fuck it's fucking raining and I didn't notice and now I have to bike in the damn rain because it's too late to walk to work or take transit or anything!
